The Monster Seated Next To Me

Haru Yoshida was a problem child. Known from miles around as a violent and unpredictable monster. Kenji Yamaguchi was the spoilt son of Doctor Yamaguchi.
Kenji was lost, Haru found him.

1. Whatever you say?

Haru Yoshida was a violent and unpredictable monster.

I remember when I first met him, he was odd, very different. I was top of the class, excelling in everything, loved by all the girls... He knocked me down one hell of a notch. I became second in every single thing that we did, and being young, I instantly hated him, and so that hatred turned to what you could call 'innocent bullying' if there ever was a thing. I would scowl across the room at him and roll my eyes when he looked over. I even tried to knock him over once... That plan backfired, his older brother Yuzan came to the rescue. You wouldn't believe how relieved I was when I found out that he wasn't going to the same high school as me. I thought I'd left him behind forever, that I'd never see him again. Damn me for being so wrong...

I pushed my way out of the trees, brushing leaves out of my blonde hair as I stepped onto the gravel path, sighing in dismay. Damn it all... I hated to admit it, but I was lost, lost as a polar bear in a desert. I groaned to myself as I collapsed onto a bench, I'd never find the way home at this rate! Now, now, let me explain... I had gone out to meet someone, gotten lost on the way and turned up two hours late. By that time the girl that I was supposed to be meeting up with had obviously bailed on me. It was then that I realised that I didn't know the way home. As I sat on the bench I pondered upon my options, I could wander around even more and possibly get lost even more, or... Or I could phone my sister Iyo, I would be running the risk of here having a go at me, but that way I'd know that she'd come for me to show me the way back home!

Genius! I took my phone out of my back pocket and dialled her number, listening to the ringing before she answered.

"Hey! Iyo! You know how you... love your dear older brother... Um... Could you do me a favo-"

"Brother, you're lost. Aren't you?" She cut me off, damn she knew me far too well. "Iyo told you not to leave the house without an escort!"

"I know, I know, I'm stupid because I didn't listen... Come get me... Please?" Well that escalated quickly, I had already reduced to practical begging.

Iyo sighed from the other side of the phone. "Iyo will come to get you soon, find a coffee shop or something and sit down, don't move, whatever you do."

"Okay, I'm near a coffee shop..."

"What street are you on Brother?"

"Uh...." I scanned the surrounding area, "Something street?"

"Honestly... Okay. Iyo will track you on her phone, don't move from the coffee shop, okay?"

"Okay." I hung up on her, traipsing to the coffee shop, buying myself a coffee and looking around at the available tables. It was that time of the day when everywhere is slightly desolate, and so it didn't take me long to sit at an empty table, crossing my legs over and lazily sipping my coffee with a smug grin.

I've always been quite attractive, (not to brag or anything) soft blonde hair and calm brown eyes, Not too tall, but not short either. I've always been told that I look like my younger sister... Not that I take it as a complement, but I guess there's no problem with it-

"Holy crap!" A hand grabbed a hold of my shoulder suddenly, shocking me out of my thought. "It is you! Kenji! The Yamaguchis' boy!" A solid-looking body practically fell into the seat next to me, a boy around my age, with messy black hair that fell in his watery grey-blue eyes. I knew that face all too well.

And after all those years... I never thought we'd meet again...

Haru Yoshida.
