“What happened?” Bonnie asked. Everyone, but Stefan, were sitting at a table in Mystic Grill. Damon had also joined the group of friends, only because he was partially to blame for what had happened at Tyler’s place. It had been a few weeks since Stefan had agreed to become a Ripper again. Both Stefan and Elena left still Mystic Falls. Though, the two of them leaving didn’t make it any better for their friends. Their friends were now more worried that Stefan and Elena were somewhere out there killing other people. Caroline had explained to everyone about Elena's reason for being back in Mystic Falls. “Why would she ask Stefan to do that?” Matt turned his attention to Caroline, who shrugged. Everyone figured that there must’ve been some reason that Elena wanted Stefan to become a Ripper.

“Originally, she wanted me to turn off my humanity.” said Damon. “If I had agreed, then—“

“We need you Damon.” interrupted Bonnie. “Without you, then we’re back at square one.”

“Did you even bother to try to turn her humanity back on?” asked Tyler.

“Of course I tried Lockwood. Elena's humanity switch isn’t easy to turn on. I don’t know how to help her, as much as I would want to.” Damon sighed. He was close to giving up, just like everyone else. They lost their friends to the no humanity life.

“I could help.” A voice startled all of them, but Damon. He wanted to wrap his hand around her neck. He couldn’t. It was a public place, and she was stronger than him. It turned out to be Katherine. She stood before the group with a smirk on her face. The group didn’t want her help. Though, they had no other options. “Tell us you brought back up Katherine.” Caroline said. Katherine pulled up a chair and sat down at the table to join them. She sat in between Matt and Tyler. She made it a bit obvious that she adored Matt because of how blue his eyes were. Also, he was the only human sat at the table. “No, but it seems you’re all desperate.” said she. Everyone exchanged glances with each other. They knew that she was right. They filled her in on what had happened, especially about their case with Elena. This was information that she was most interested in. Her doppelgänger was an even more terrifying vampire than she was. “Oh, that girl is a clever one. I mean to disregard Damon as trash and go for the better looking brother.” Katherine couldn’t help but give Elena some credit.

“Are you going to help us or not?” Damon was getting impatient, like always. Though this wasn’t the first time they’ve utilized Katherine's help. She wasn’t always so willing in the past. Katherine agreed to help, but only on one condition. No one really liked to hear what she had to say. It seemed that they weren’t given a choice, except to comply. A month had passed when Elena had come back to Mystic Falls without Stefan. She walked through the Town Square and saw Matt sitting on one of the benches alone. She smiled when she saw him and sat down beside him. “Hey Matt. Where’s everyone?”

“Ah, well they’re not here yet. You know I like going out for a morning run.”

“Are you telling the truth?” She looked into his eyes to compel him. Matt interrupted by saying that she didn’t need to. He would never lie to her because of the fact that he believed that their friendship could be rekindled. He asked her if she would like to head to Mystic Grill for breakfast. Elena agreed; and the two of them stood up and started to walk to the Grill. Matt was hoping she wasn’t going to expect the plan he and everyone else put together unfolding. They arrived at Mystic Grill and decided to take a seat inside. They entered one of the booths. Before being able to order their food, Elena excused herself to go to the bathroom. Just as she cleared the floor to the bathroom, she felt something prick her neck and blacked out. When she awoke, she was in the living room of the Salvatore Boarding house with her hands and legs tied to a chair. The ropes were laced with vervain so they burned her skin whenever she squirmed. Damon stood before her and… “Caroline.”

Elena recognized the vampire beside Damon. Caroline said nothing. “Damon, didn’t… ouch… These ropes are hurting me.” She whimpered.

“Oh that’s the point.” said Caroline. “You shouldn’t have come alone. Precious Stefan isn’t here to save you. I asked your Bonnie to cast a location spell to find Stefan. Soon he’ll be in the same position as you.”

“Stefan’s smart; and he isn’t easy to take down.” Elena squirmed in her seat. She was still weak from having the vervain in her system. Damon didn’t like seeing her sat in the chair, except it was better than having her in the basement. Honestly, no one ever considered questioning Katherine. They were all too afraid to stand up to her. Elena was the one person who knew where Stefan had gone off to. She knew how difficult it would be for them to catch him on time because he was only told to keep running. She remembered the first night in an old motel, just a couple hundred miles off the highway. The two of them had to share one bed. It was also the same night she asked him to turn off his humanity, which he had obviously refused. “What will it take for you to comply Stefan?” She faced him. Stefan was sat on the edge of the bed turned towards her direction. When didn’t answer, she let out a sigh and sat down on the bed. She may have threatened the safety of their friends, and that was it.

“You know I didn’t come here for you.” Stefan looked at her. She could see the hatred he had built up towards her. A man that had once loved her, now hated her. She could tell that he was thinking about becoming a Ripper. She could see the worry on his face. She could tell that if he turned off his humanity, then there wouldn’t be anyone to bring him back. Wasn’t that all she wanted? For Stefan to be a Ripper again? Elena originally wanted Damon. She wanted the two of them to live a carefree and happy life, except that’s not what Damon wanted. Elena pinned him down to the bed and climbed on top of him. Stefan didn’t dare move underneath her, except look up at her with his green colored eyes. “Turn off your humanity and be happy with me, or don’t be happy at all.”

“What are you trying to gain here Elena? What is the point of me becoming a—“

“I can’t be selfish and want you all to myself? C’mon, do you honestly think that Caroline truly loves you? She can’t even handle your true self Stefan. She’s afraid of that side of you.” Elena interrupted. “I, however, am not afraid.” She reached up and caressed his cheek with a soft smile. In that split second, Stefan saw something in her eyes. He saw the old Elena, the one he had fallen in love with back in high school. Angela started to lean in and press her lips to his. Of course there was nothing emotional between the two of them; but the kiss was still passionate. Stefan stopped her and moved away. Elena didn’t like how his humanity had gotten in the way. “Stefan, have fun with me. We can do whatever we want with no rules.” She was still sitting in the bed with her shirt ripped open. Stefan had done so because of habit.

. . .

“Did you find him?” Caroline asked Katherine. Elena saw that Katherine had walked into the Boarding house. Katherine told her that Stefan found away to hide his location from them. Elena sat in her chair and silently watched Katherine approach her. She remembered Katherine from not too long ago. “Well, well, well… What a nice surprise to see you again. We are going to have so… much… fun.”
