2. Blood Stained Walls

The Lockwood mansion was full of old high school friends with some new college ones as well. Elena arrived because she decided that the party sounded fun. She sent Tyler a text to let him know that she was at his house. Tyler approached the entryway and invited her inside. Elena thanked and wrapped her arms around him to give a hug. "Thanks for inviting Ty, even if everyone else didn't want me to come." She pulled away and looked into his eyes. She knew Tyler didn't mind. She knew he'd do anything for her, whether she asked for his help or not. She made her way over to the snack table and picked up a red cup full of beer.

As she took a sip, she saw Tyler approach the group of friends. She maintained her distance from them, knowing full well they didn't want her at the Lockwood mansion. She especially stayed away from Caroline because she felt that her old friend might lunge at her for the incident that happened. Just as she was finished with her cup, she set it down and saw him enter the main room. The dark hair, bright eyed, and broad shouldered features belonged to the one and only Damon Salvatore aka her ex-boyfriend. She didn't even have to see him to feel his presence. She knew almost instantly when he arrived. "Of course you'd be here Damon."

Damon had approached her with nothing but a casual smile. It had been almost five years since the first day they met, but only four since the break up. He had fallen for her almost as fast as she had fallen for him. He shrugged and said, "Well, you know I'm a sucker for college girls." Elena rolled her eyes at him. She wondered how Damon knew she was in town. She figured Stefan must've told him. She wasn't mad. Damon suggested for the two of them to go somewhere else. Elena stated that the two of them had just gotten to the party and how it was too soon to leave.

"Besides, all of my old friends are here." she smiled. Damon remembered the very day he told Elena he loved her. It was the summer before her Senior year in high school. They had just been on a few dates. Damon had never had such a strong feeling or anyone in a long time. He couldn't really explain it to her, let alone admit it to himself. The two of them were walking along an old bridge, just a few miles outside of town. He had just stopped in mid-step while Elena kept going. He saw her turn around to look at him.

Her brown eyes glistened under the evening moonlight. The way the light bounced off her olive colored skin made him even more nervous to say what was on his mind. "Damon, what is it?" She asked him with a confused look on her face. She began to approach him and reached out to touch his cheek. Damon slightly shook his head, only because he was trying to find the right words to say to her. He found that there were none, except for the three that stood out in his mind.

In the past century he has lived on this earth, there was only one other girl head been in love with. Of course, it had been during the time when he was human. As a vampire, love was much different. He approached many of his emotions different, especially when it came to Elena. He hadn't met any girl like her before. She was something else. He stayed silent for another minute or so. He could sense that Elena knew something was going on in his mind. She kept quiet. She was the only person who knew what he was thinking, who could read his expressions to know the exact answer to questions she would ask. She stood patiently, waiting for him to say what he needed to say. She didn't need to press any further for Damon to speak up. "I love you."

Now as Elena stood before him in the Lockwood mansion, Damon was suddenly nervous. He knew she was right when she rolled her eyes. He wasn't there for the college girls at the party. He was there for one girl and only one. Her. He looked into her eyes and felt the pull he had felt all those years ago when he said those three words. He knew why Elena was back in Mystic Falls for a reason. He didn't think that the reason would be him. "Your old friends don't want you here. So why did you come back?" Their friends relied on Damon to have Elena leave Mystic Falls. Apparently Damon was their last hope.

Elena reached out and touched his cheek. Her touch was one of his weaknesses; and everyone knew it. Elena could sense their friends were watching, and or listening in on their conversation. "You know why I'm here Damon."

In the office of Mayor Lockwood, everyone was gathered inside. Damon entered the room, not too long after he had gotten Elena to leave. "So?" Caroline had her arms crossed over her chest. Damon didn't know where to begin. He told them that he had gone out to the backyard with Elena, where the two of them had a nice conversation. While everyone was listening intently, Stefan knew Damon wasn't telling them the full truth. He knew his brother well enough that he was keeping something from them. "A part of me doesn't believe you Damon." said Stefan. Their friends' glances exchanged between the two brothers. "You're holding back. What actually happened?"

Damon let out a sigh and told them, “She’s… She’s too far gone Stef. I thought maybe I could work my magic on her. I thought that I could get her to leave, except I….” Before Damon could add on anything else, Stefan stated he smelt blood. Everyone exited the study and walked to the main room. While the music was still playing, people weren’t dancing. They were all on the floor, dead. Some with their heads ripped off, others with mangled bodies. It was a horrid sight. “Damon, what did you do?” asked Bonnie. Damon had no idea where to begin. He knew that this was all his fault. He knew that he was the only person who could fix all of this. He told them that he’ll go and find her. A part of him was thinking it was a bad idea, only because he confronted her earlier and the mess of people on the floor was his doing. He added by saying to everyone that they should start cleaning up and find a way to tell the rest of the town about the missing people.

Damon headed to the Salvatore Boarding house. As soon as he entered, he saw the shadowed figure in the middle of the room before the fireplace. He didn’t have to ask the person their name. He knew the person who had now turned to stand before him. Her dark hair fell in long waves. Her black dress was tight around her chest and waist as it rested a few inches above her knees. He couldn’t ignore her dark stained lips or her bloodshot eyes as she gave him that playful smirk. “Mmm, glad you could join me Damon.” Her face was just inches away from his. Her lips brushed against him, which only allowed for him to have a taste of what he was missing. Damon smirked, and his eyes gazed into hers. In the back of his mind, something had to be done. Though he didn’t mind playing along for the ride. He reached up to caress her cheek. It was only a brief moment that she closed her eyes to feel his soft touch, which he found was the perfect moment to… thud.
