The Last Petal...

He grew up full of prejudice. Was taught he was superior. He knew nothing of other people's feelings, nor did he care. The very idea of love and light made him sneer. But what would you expect, from a beast?

Draco's eyes fluttered open and he caught sight of the witch next to him.

Cursing, he jumped up and ran to the bathroom.

He let her get in his head again! What was wrong with him?!

He leaned heavily against the counter, scowling.

In a split second decision, he walked into the bedroom, grabbed clean clothes, and started the shower.

All his anger slowly faded with the steamy water.

When he was done, he put his hand on the doorknob, took a deep breath, and opened it.

Granger was gone.

He let out a sigh of relief, but at the same time felt a small sadness.

Hermione was startled awake by a sudden movement and Draco cursing.

She sat up and than frowned when she saw him storm into the bathroom.

Oh no. What had she done? Slowly, she got up and walked across the room towards the door.

She froze as the bathroom door flung open. Holding her breath, she waited for Draco to yell at her, but he only grabbed some clothes and went back into the bathroom.

Hermione shut the door behind her to the sound of running water.

Later that day, Professor McGonagall called them to her office.

"Mrs.Granger, Mr.Malfoy, please have a seat," Professor McGonagall said kindly

Hermione immediately sat, while Draco glanced at the two witches before slowly sinking into a chair.

"As you two are the Head Boy and Girl, and Christmas is approaching, I decided we are going to throw a ball," McGonagall started

Hermione's face broke into a smile. She loved planning balls! Especially at Christmas time!

Draco frowned.

"What does that have to do with-" he started

"And you two will be planning it. That how, Mr. Malfoy," McGonagall explained, beaming

She proceeded to hand them a list of items to be sure to include and than sent them off to dinner.

"A ball! Of all things!" Draco ranted when they got out of the office

"I think it's a lovely idea," Hermione scowled

"Well you think a lot of things are lovely when their clearly not," he said hotly

"What's that supposed to mean?" Hermione glared

"Me. I'm talking about me. You think I'm not so bad after all. Don't deny it. I can see it in your eyes. But you don't understand, I'm a monster...." He trailed off, his eyes clouding with darkness

"Draco, you are many things, but you are not a monster," Hermione whispered, putting a hand on his cheek

He turned his head and walked quickly down the corridor away from her. Hermione let her hand drop to her side and sighed. She slowly trudged along behind him towards dinner.
