The Last Petal...

He grew up full of prejudice. Was taught he was superior. He knew nothing of other people's feelings, nor did he care. The very idea of love and light made him sneer. But what would you expect, from a beast?

Hermione rolled over on her side. Sunlight streamed into the open window, temporary blinding her. She groaned and got out of bed. Crookshangs gave a meow of protest as the blanket covered his ginger body.

She smiled at the wrestling lump on her bed as he tried to fight his way out of the maze of blankets.

She heard a door close downstairs and frowned. She had forgotten about her little 'pest'.

After a quick shower, she got dressed and went down to the kitchen.

Her head swung left and right as she searched for any sign of her dorm mate. He was nowhere in sight.

Breakfast didn't start for another half hour, so she made a cup of steaming tea.

Hermione let out a deep breath as she eased herself into the couch with her book and tea.

"Do you ever go anywhere without a book?" A voice said behind her

Knowing exactly who it was, she remained silent.

"Hey! I'm talking to you, Granger!" Malfoy shouted at her

She still said nothing, deciding instead to turn the page.

"Oi! Granger! You can't ignore me!" He yelled becoming quickly annoyed

Hermione hummed softly.

Malfoy came around the couch in front of her and knocked the book out of her hands to the floor.

"Hey!" Hermione protested jumping down to the floor and grabbing her book

He smirked as she glared at him.

"If you know what's good for you, you'll stay out of my way," Hermione growled at him

"Ooh! The mudblood gained some tongue! I'm so scared!" He mocked pretending to quiver in fright

The fist came out of nowhere. Colors popped in his eyes and he felt himself take a few steps backwards to prevent further injury.

He saw Granger shake her fist and wince a little bit. He gritted his teeth at the little dribble of blood he felt travel down his face.

"Geez, Granger. You've improved since third year," he said rubbing his nose

Granger hugged her book to her chest, turned on her heel, and walked out the portrait hole to breakfast.

Oh how he despised her. How dare she punch him in the face! Again!

The more he thought about it, the angrier he got.

He knew he was going to get her back for this, and he knew it was going to be tonight.

He stalked out of the common room and to the Great Hall for breakfast.
