8. Chapter 7

"How dare you disobey me!?" My brother's voice rings in my ear.

"I didn't disobey you. We were all just having lunch. It was not like I went over to his house and did anything" I say while trying to keep my calm. Akuti was silent as she was driving and it was her first time seeing my brother this angry, that even the word itself is an understatement. After my brother found out that I was with Deepak, he grew furious and legit dragged me out from the cafe to Akuti's car. Deepak tried to stop him by claiming it was his fault for inviting me but my brother ignored him all the way.

"You know what? I'm telling ma" he said in a straight voice that caused me to grow angry.

"Nothing is going on between Deepak and I!"

"Stop lying Riya!"

"I'm not lying!!"

"Rajesh, maybe you should listen to her. Why don't you like that boy anyways?" Akuti finally chimes in as we were a few blocks parked before our house.

"Because he's not a Sikh" he says causing me to hate him more. I never liked anything to do with rational disgrace. Both me and my brother continued our fight when suddenly Akuti says "Then maybe we shouldn't be together" causing both me and my brother to go silent.

"Akuti, it's different between us" my brother says trying to calmly intertwine his hand with Akuti's.

"Get out Rajesh" she yells. I instantly thought that meant for me as well, but as I opened the car door, Akuti says "Not you Riya"

I close it back, happy I don't have to explain to mum as to why I came back with my brother.

"Okay, do you like that boy?" Akuti asks with a smile the minute my brother foes into the house.

At this point, I didn't know whether to be very honest with her or to lie to her.

I just decided to nod.

"Then don't listen to your brother. He's just mad and crazy" she says with a giggle.

"Deepak kissed me earlier" I say quietly, still not sure whether to be honest or not.

"He did!? I'm so happy for you! You got your first kiss! I could see earlier he's really into you. He was so sad of what your brother did to you" she says her reaction changing from excited to sad.

"I just pity my best friend" I say with a frown.

"Oh she's the girl that cried earlier right?"

With a nod, I reply "Yeah, the other couple you were with, was actually her boyfriend cheating on her with another girl"

"No way! I didn't know that! That's so sad. Dont mind me asking, isn't she cheating on him too?"

"No, the guy she found comfort in is a friend of hers. She does kind of like him but she stayed friends with him just because she had a boyfriend"

"That's so sad" she says with a frown.

"My brother knows about it but he never said a word to me. I wonder why"

"Me too" she says deep in thought.

"I'm sorry about the way my brother acted" I say sadly.

"No, don't apologise for him. It's not your fault. I think you should get going. Your brother is calling me" she says, showing me her phone.

"Don't answer. Let his guilt eat him from inside out" I say with a chuckle. She laughs along and I exit her car right after.

I walk to my house and greet my mother with a hug.

"Hi Riya. Have you seen your brother?" My mother asks starting to worry.

"He must be in his room. Why?"

"I've been calling him an hour from now and even tried knocking on his room door that is locked, but he never answered" she says while cutting carrots.

"Oh" I say while thinking. An hour from now? Did my brother sneak out to go lunch with Akuti?... Then how dare he yell at me!

I march upstairs and bang my fists on his room door. He answers 5 minutes later with a fake sleepy face.

"You snuck out!" I say whisper yelling.

"You did t-

"I did not! My curfew is still 2 hours later" I cut him off, furious with his actions. Instead of owning up to me, my brother just decides to slam the door at me.

"I'm telling ma" I say right before he opened the door again to tell me "You have no proof. Besides,  between both of us, ma trusts me more than you" then he slams the door at me again. What he said was true. Ma does trust him more. I wasn't allowed to go anywhere alone until I was 16 and my curfew is still at 5 p.m. between both of us, my parents always trusts my brother more than me.

Having to lose the battle with brother, I just decided to go and listen to music in my room. I turn on my music player and sit on my study table infront of the window to write in my diary. Halfway writing about my over protective brother, a paper plane enters my open window and lands on my desk. Written inside the paper plane was,

I'm sorry

I look out my window and there was Deepak holding 6 balloons with something tied to it.

He mouthed "Catch it" before letting the balloon go. It floated up to my window and I caught it just in time. Tied to the balloons is a chocolate bar with a letter taped to it. I untie the chocolate and let go of the balloons up to the sky. I open the taped letter and written inside was,

I love you Riya

I started blushing real hard. I put my head out my window and blew a kiss to him. He acted like he caught the kiss and then he proceeded to put it to his heart.
