6. Chapter 5

The whole morning and afternoon passes by with a blur. Mostly because I kept daydreaming about the oh so handsome Deepak.

This is so unhealthy. Daydreaming about Deepak isn't going to help me score in my exam or maybe it can? What if I wrote an essay called 'A Hundred Things I Love About Deepak'? Would I still fail? I bet not. The examiner would probably start drooling on the 5th thing in the essay but then again, what did I know about betting. I failed the last time.

The last school bell rings and the teacher dispatches everyone away.

I was sitting on the stairs at the entrance of the school all alone because it just so happened, that Kyushi had somewhere urgent to go. Now because of her, I'm forced to make up my own conversation topics. Something I'm really bad at.

My heart rate was at ease, when all of a sudden, someone decided to yell "Boo!!!" In my left ear causing it to start ringing. I turn around with a frown, only to find out that Deepak was the one who scared me to almost deafness. To be honest, anything Deepak does seems very okay to me.

I just roll my eyes and pout to a further fake anger. Deepak sits next to me and nudges me to stop me from staying mad. We both laugh at what happened and somewhat enjoy the quietness. I spot Deepak's friends to my right getting ready to practice for their next game after the exams.

"Aren't you going to join them?" I ask facing him only to catch him already looking at me.

"Nah, I'd rather not leave you alone" he says with a rather straight face.

"Don't be silly. I can take care of myself. You should practice for the game not saying you need to or anything" I say freaking out.

"I'll go if you agree to sit on the bench by the field and cheer for me" he says with a cheeky smile. I tiredly nod as he pulls me up and we walk to the field holding hands.

"Guys this is Riya" he introduces me to his friends as they smile and wave at me. I return the smile and wave. They all continue to communicate in Tamil. Eventhough I know that Deepak is Indian and not Sikh,  I still want to give us a chance.

"Why don't you sit over there Riya" Deepak says and gestures for me to sit at a bench far left of the field. To be honest, I don't know how the game goes. Everyone else in India is a huge cricket fan except me. I never really fancied cricket but watching my crush play was different. My eyes were on him the whole game. I knew when he won as he would often jump with joy. It was hilariously adorable. He won again and that was when his friends gave up on practising as he kept taking everything seriously. He approached me with a huge smile. Even when he was sweaty he looked hot.

"Where's my winning hug?" He asked with a laugh. I was eager to hug him eventhough he was dripping with sweat but Kyushi's advice started to ring in my head. "Don't show him you're desperate to be with him"

"Ew, no. You're sweating so much it's probably illegal to do so" I say with a smile while he laughs at what I said. I was reading a text when Deepak asked me the most unexpected question.

"Maybe we should go out on a date?"

My jaw literally dropped but I managed to pull myself together.

"I would love to, but I'm not allowed to go out anywhere. I have to go. Bye" I say quickly and leave him standing there recalling what had just happened.

I go into Akuti's car and exhale quite loudly.

"I saw you with that cute boy out there. Spill to me all the details" Akuti says with excitement in her eyes.

"Why don't you tell me what your surprise for me is first"

"Okay then. Here you go" she said and handed me the makeup set she used on me earlier.

"Wait, your makeup set? You're giving it to me?" I ask with shock.

She nods and says "My parents bought for me different brands of makeup, I have many with the same colour palette but different brand. I figured you would love it" She said eyes on the road.

"Thank you Akuti" I say starting to enjoy having her as a sister in law

"No problem, now tell me about that guy!!" She says impatiently.

"Well, turns out he notices me even without makeup, his bad boy attitude is just a facade that people make up and he just asked me out on a date" I say in less that a second that Akuti had to stop at the side of the road to look at me with shock.

"So, he's a nice popular guy and he's into you?" She asks.

"Well yes" I say letting out pieces of my blush that I had to difficultly hide behind a straight face when I was talking to Deepak.

"Oh my god! This is huge!! Tell me you said yes!!" She yells obviously excited for me.

"So I shouldn't tell you if I said no?"

"You said no?" She asks.

I nod with a frown.

"No, why?" She whines with a pout.

"Because my mum would kill me if I went out on a date with an Indian guy"

"Well, who said anything about telling this date to your parents?" Akuti asks with an eyebrow raised.
"Wait, you want to send me to this date secretly?" I ask with shock.

"Why not" she answers with ease
