4. Chapter 3

I lay on my comfy bed after a very exhausting date with my brother and his girlfriend. She's a nice girl but I doubt my parents would approve of them being together. Eventhough my mum is an Indian and dad is a typical punjabi, they still wouldn't allow the marriage of mixed cultures.

I sighed out loud and tried to get some sleep.

~~

The next morning, I awoke to the sound of loud knocking. I check my phone to find out it's 6 am. I had at least another 2 hours till school starts. Why would my brother wake me up at this time!?

I walked tiredly to my door only to be greeted by a very active Akuti.

"Hi Riya!!" She greeted and continued to wave excessively.

"What are you doing here Akuti?"

"Oh your parents left for work at 5 am. I thought you would've known that?" She says with an eyebrow raised.

Well I know that, but why would she be here? So basically when mum, dad and I aren't home, Akuti would come over and spend time with my brother? I don't even want to think what the both of them would be doing home alone.

"I came over early because I wanted to you get a guy from school or at least get people to stare at you. Shh, don't tell your brother that. I told him we would just talk and he decided to go back to sleep"

Akuti wants to help me and I want to use them. What kind of person am I?

"In what kind of way are you wanting to help?" I ask. Curiosity taking over me as I see her carrying a makeup bag and a few other things.

"In a makeover way" she says with a cheeky dimpled smile.

I return the smile and nod. She pulls out my dressing chair quietly and gestures for me to sit. She combs my thinning straight hair with ease.

"You've got such thin hair and with it being straight doesn't help at all. I'm going to curl it with the rollers. You'll have to put on a shower cap when you're about to bathe" she says as I nod along.

As she was curling my hair, she asks me "So, got any guy in mind?"

I hesitate a while before nodding.

"Don't mind spilling the details?"

"Well he's the school's famous cricketer, one of the top ten smart student with amazing hair. Even after a game he still looks hot"

"Hahaha I bet. Well I'm here to help. Pick among these three dresses and that will be your colour scheme"

On the bed were 3 gorgeous dresses. All of them were below my knee length. There was a sunshine coloured dress with puffy sleeves and a puffy bottom, a black A line with long sleeve and a grey vest and a wine red dress with half arm length sleeve and a bottom flair. It was quite a hard choice but I finally chose the sunshine coloured dress.

"Hurry up Riya! I'm eager to see how you look in the dress!" Akuti yells from outside the bathroom.

I step out of the warm and steamy bathroom to my cold airy bedroom. Akuti gasps and starts clapping. She gestures for me to turn around and starts clapping more.

"You look gorgeous in it Riya! These dresses were too short for me anyways"

"Actually, I think even my brother shirt would look like a dress on me and he's not even an inch taller than you"

"Well I know people would most probably tell you to jump to grow taller and all but to me, you shouldn't. Your the perfect special petite size you. Don't change for anyone" Akuti says with a smile.

"Thank you"

"Wait, I'm not done with your makeup and hair yet!" She whisper yells as my brother was still asleep. The makeup bag I saw earlier was on my dressing table with all the makeup supplies lined up around it. She gestures for me to sit in front the mirror again except this time, she made me face the opposite way.

"You've already got quite a smooth skin and I don't want to damage it further by adding too much foundation and all that" She says with a smile.

Once Akuti was done with the makeup and my hair, she finally reveals my final look to me. I stare with disbelief at the girl in front of me. That doesn't look like me at all. My long hair that I usually hide by tying a bun, is lose with the curls resting just below my chest. My eyebrows weren't halfway empty anymore and are full and pointy. She used very light yellow eyeshadow on my eyelids with brown eyeliner. To complete the whole look she adds a slight pink lipstick.

"What did you do to me? I look gorgeous" I ask with my mouth lingering open.

She closes my mouth and says "You are already gorgeous, Riya. I just helped you bring it out more"

Akuti is amazing. Just like my dream sister. I hugged her and thanked her.

"One more thing..." she trails off and hands me a pair of brown wedges.

"I've never been a fan about my feet a few inches off the ground"

"Please? He'll probably notice you better" Akuti beg while making a joke about my height. Still in tired mood, I nod in retreat.
