Billy Royal had taken a bus all the way to Hull in South Yorkshire to visit his three friends in Everthorpe Prison. He packed a shoe box full of things they could use like sweets, chocolate, toothpaste, soap, and some cigarettes. He also had three pound notes ready to pass under the table when the screws weren’t looking. He went through the procedure of being searched then he was let in to the room where he sat waiting until the prisoners were led in wearing their prison clothes. They had to wear their ties and the short black coats. Billy knew the drill well enough he’d done it himself.

When the three lads came together on one table the screws watch them like hawks for the first twenty minutes.

Billy told them he was now working full time on Jackson’s farm up in New York near the old reservoir where they played as kids and stole turnips from the field for Halloween. The lads had served nearly two years now. Albert Reynolds lost a full year remission after it was discovered that he’d paid Willie Neil to deal with the four men who had raped him. All four men ended up in the hospital wing with serious wounds to both face and body. They all had their scrotums slashed with an open razor blade. And if hadn’t of been for the quick intervention by one officer they would have bled to death.

This was also the first time that the four of them had been together since they were allocated houses within the prison.’

They all talked so fast because they only had one hour. Billy passed the money to Alan Stoneman who then passed two of the notes to Danny and Albert. They all winked at Billy who then told them he’d left them all stuff that they could use.

Don’t worry it didn’t cost me a penny he said.

“I thought you’d gone straight?’

“Well needs must you know.’

“All four men laughed.’ As Billy then asked if there was any sign of an early release.’

“Well I have a review next week said Danny.’

“What about you Butch asked Billy, giving Alan his nick name.’

“I don’t think I’m eligible for another three years mate.’ You are all going to be out before me.’

“Don’t worry they laughed we will come and see you.’

“Bastards said Butch sarcastically.’

They had all started smoking now and Billy passed them all cigarettes and waited for the screw to come and light them up as matches weren’t allowed in the visiting room.

Billy would collect his valuables on the way out.

“What’s been happening back home Billy?’
