1. I

"Marley, are you coming?"
I glared at Dakota who held hands with Pete.
"Yes, just a second." I turned around to my locker. "So, you're going out with your friends or?" Marc crossed his arms and stared at me.
"Yes. I'm sorry."
"I thought we were supposed to do our homework together tonight? Just say you don't want to be with me, if that's the case."

Marc and I had been together for one year now, and every memory we had together, had a fight in it. We always des agreed with each other, and... Well let's just say he had a temper and I did to. So we always ended up fighting over something stupid, like I forgot to text him back or I didn't have time to be with him one day, or he spent just too much time with Amber after class.

FYI, Amber was the head cheerleader, at our school. And yes, she had long blond hair and dark blue eyes. She was every guys dream, and I understood why.
She was beautiful, and even though I wanted to hate her it was impossible. She was nice to every one, and actually a good friend.

"No, of course I still wanna be with you. We're just going to that new cafe down the street. So, I'll see you tomorrow." I gave him a kiss and went over to join the others. "Is he okay with it?" Said Pete. "Well, he has to be. I'm allowed to hang out with my friends. Lets go."

****

"Wait, are you leaving? Already?" I turned my head around to face Dakota. She stared at me. "Seriously? Is it because of Marc? We've only been here for 15 minutes. Come on." "No, it's not because of him. I'm tired, okay? And I have homework to do. I'll see you guys later. Ta ta." "Ta ta then." Then Pete gave me a smile and I turned around.

Dakota and Pete had been together for 6 months now. Their relationship was like a fairytale. They almost never argued, and they loved each other to the moon and back, or whatever you say. Pete he was the most loyal person I had ever known. He hadn't looked at another girl since he fell in love with Dakota, who then had another boyfriend. Of course she fell for him too and had to break up with her boyfriend. But, he got mad, and Pete and him got into a fight. So Pete and Dakota took a break because of all the drama. Sad though.
But it's all good now and they're still together. Dakotas ex, Daniel still hates Pete. So from time to time he threatend him. But he didn't really care.
I really wanted a relationship like there's. I think that's why I stayed with Marc. I did love him, but I really hated him at the same time. But I wanted our relationship to work and I wanted us to be happy. I know he loved me too, but I was hard.
Relationship sucked. Romance sucked.
Why am I even in one?
That was the question I had been asking me for several months now.
Why am I still together with Marc?
Dakota told me to break up. Pete had told me too.
But I was too stubborn.
I wanted our relationship to work out. So I refused to break up with him.

"Hey, look where you're going! You could hurt someone!" I looked up at a tall guy standing right in front of me.
Jesus.
Wow.
He was... Handsome.
I think his hair was coloured. There's no way it could be so black naturally. And his eyes. Dark brown coloured, that looked like he had seen the hole world. Like, he had deep secrets, that he couldn't tell anyone.
And he was tall too.
Yes yes, very handsome.
And muscular. Very very muscular. Jesus. Why did I want to touch his biceps so much? And his abs. They must had been huge.
"What are you doing?"
I looked up at his eyes again. He stared at my hand witch was touching his arm. Oh God.
I was actually touching his arm. Well, this was awkward. I quickly removed my hand.
"Oh, sorry. I didn't mean too..."
He started laughing.
"It's okay, just... Try not to touch any more strangers today," he took a step closer and whispered into my ear. "They'll think you're a freak or something." Then he laughed again and walked past me.
Aaaaand, what the hell just happened? I didn't even get his name. Bastard. Thinks he could just walk away like that. I wasn't done starring at him. A freak. For touching a mans arm? Pft. Whatever.

I went home, said hello to my mom, my dad etc. Then I went upstairs. Soaking wet. Yes, it had been raining. A lot. I quickly dried my hair, took on some jeans and a top and then I went into my room, sat on my bed and glared at my bookshelf. I picked a book with my eyes and stood up.
Me And Earl And The Dying Girl. Not a book I had read before. I read at the backside.

This is the funniest book you'll ever read about death.

It  is a universally acknowledged truth that high school sucks. But on the  first day of his senior year, Greg Gaines thinks he's figured it out.  The answer to the basic existential question: How is it possible to  exist in a place that sucks so bad? His strategy: remain at the  periphery at all times. Keep an insanely low profile. Make mediocre  films with the one person who is even sort of his friend, Earl.
This  plan works for exactly eight hours. Then Greg's mom forces him to become  friends with a girl who has cancer. This brings about the destruction  of Greg's entire life.

Well okay. That sounded pretty interesting. But did I want to read it? Maybe I should find another book. But... This was the only one I hadn't read before. I jumped in bed and turned the first page.
Hmm. It sounded good already. But I really needed to get new books.

Page 105. Done. Tired. No more reading today. I put my bookmark inside the book, put it on my bedside table and went downstairs.
"Oh, hi Marley. Tired of reading?" My mom was in the middle of cooking.
"How did you know?"
"You always read when you come home from school."
She sat down on a kitchen chair and lit a cigarette.
"Well yeah. I've read a hundred pages. But I need new books. Can we get some? I've read them all except for one." "Sure. Let's go." She stood up took on her light brown trench coat and her black Gucci back. "But what about the food?"
"Alisha, come down here!"
Yeah, Alisha was my big sister. 18 years old and single. It wasn't because she wasn't pretty or that the boys didn't like her. 'Cause they did. The boys always followed her around like they were her dogs. She just didn't have the time to focus on boys.
She was the protective type of sister. That's why she hated Marc. She didn't think he was good for me. "What is it?" Alisha came downstairs with her hands full of clothes. "I need you to check on the food from time to time. I have to take Marley to the bookstore. She needs new books. Is that okay with you?" Alisha threw the clothes on the chair, gave me a small hug and walked into the kitchen. "Yeah sure. Isn't it time to get your drivers licens soon?" "I don't know. Maybe." "Your 16 Marley." "Yeah I know. Maybe, I said. Let's go mom."

"So, what kinda books you want?" I took out some books that lookes interesting. "I'm not sure. But these sounds good." I handed my mom the four novels. "That's it?" I shook my head and looked around in the bookstore.
Jesus Fucking Christ. That coincidence was like 1 out of a million. What was that guy doing here? In a bookstore? He didn't seem like a guy who sat at home and read books. I walked closer to him, trying to make myself invisible so he wouldn't recognize me. Witch he probrebly wouldn't anyway.

"Oh hey." Okay, he did recognize me. And he was talking to me. "Um hi. Didn't see you there." "Oh yeah, right. Of course you did. I caught you starring at me. You wanna touch my arm again or?" He streched his arm, grabbing the corner of the bookshelf. His white T-shirt tightend around his biceps. "No, it's fine. But, um, are you gonna tell me your name?" He turned his head, starring at me. "Connor McCamble." He turned his face away again, studying the books on the white metalbookshelf. "I'm Marley Parker. How old are you?" "17. You?" He didn't face me this time. "16. So where are you from? I haven't seen you before, and this town is so small, so we all know each other here." "Are you going to keep asking irrelevent questions? you're a stranger to me, so do you really expect me to tell you my hole lifestory or something?" Danm. He really didn't wanna talk to me. When I didn't answer him he sighed and continued. "I lived in London before but I moved, okay? So now I live here." I nodded. I looked back over my shoulder, just to find my mom starring at me and McCamble. "So, that's your friend?" I turned my head to face him. "Huh? What? No, that's my mom." He looked at me and grinned. "Sorry," "Well, I gotta go." I spun around but a hand on my shoulder stopped me.

"What?" I demanded. "I just found this book. It's sounds fine and all that. You interested?" He handed me the book. Clockwork Angel. I was formilliar with that book. I had never read it before, but I thought it sounded intriguing. "Well, yes. Thank you." "I didn't bought it for you or anything. Do you think I'm a walking gift shop?" I could feel my face get slightly red, and not because I was blushing, but because of the irritation. "Do you think I'm stupid? I said thank you, because you found the book I've been looking for." I took the book out of his hands and walked over to my mom. "I'm done here." I paid for the books and hurried out to the car.
