Lake Green

I frowned at my best friends failing to tie a knot for the boat. “Do you need some assistance?” I asked him. “No, I got this.” He growled at me in frustration. I scoffed and looked out at the shining, glistening lake. The wind started howling and the air became a little bitter. I shivered and crossed my arms over my chest for warmth. “Wyatt, it’s going to start raining soon.” I winned. He looked up at me with a glare. “Dylan, stop being annoying.” he said plainly to me.

6. Chapter 6

We just got to the pizza place and by the way the building looked it was gonna be good. We walked into the place together and found a seat in a corner. I looked around, just to see that the place was packed. “I’ve never seen this place before. Where did you find it at?” I asked Matthew. “Well that day that I kicked you out, I went to find you and I stumbled across this place.” He looked down at the table. I could tell that he felt guilty for what he did. “Matt, you don’t have to be sorry, the past is the past.” I tried to cheer him up, but it didn’t work. “Yeah, but you have no clue how horrible I feel.” He looked at me. I didn’t know what else to say, so I scooted over to him, and I gave him a big hug.

Once he was done hugging me, this guy walked over and called us faggots, and then Matt got angry. “I don’t know why you would call us faggots, if all we did was hug, you prick!” Matthew yelled at the random guy. “Calm down, Matthew.” I looked at him, giving him a serious look. “This isn’t the place to start a fight at.” I whispered to him. If he starts a fight and the cops show up, he’s done for. Which isn’t a good thing.

“Not now Kitten.” He growled back at me. “Aw, is the faggot standing up for his boyfriend?” The guy mocked. Matthew was about to lunge at him, but I stood up and stopped him. “Matt, if the cops show up, then you will be gone….” I told him, but he didn’t seem to care. I had to think fast, because I saw the lady at the front pick up the phone. “Matt, if you are taken away, then I will be all alone, they will send me away, I don’t want that, please.” I begged thinking it was my best bet. He ignored me still.

The two of them were yelling things back and forth. I couldn’t take it anymore. “STOP! PLEASE!” I yelled and everyone turned to me. My breathing became a little heavier and the room felt like it was spinning. Was I gonna faint, yet again? Shit, I gotta get this under control. Matthew must have seen my state, because he let out a growl. He grabbed my wrist and dragged me out of the pizza place.

“Do you know what could have happened in there Matthew?!” I yelled at him in the parking lot. “Kitten, please this is not the time, or place to do this at.” He answered calmly. “No! This is the time and this is the place!” I yelled at him. “If you got the cops called on you, where do you think you would be at right now? Better yet, where would I be at?!” I was to upset to let this slide by. “Kitten, there’s people watching.” He looked nervously at the crowd that was starting to form. “Fine, you don’t wanna talk, then i’m leaving!” I yelled and started to walk home, but Matthew was already grabbing me by the waist and taking me to the car.

“I don’t know why you just did that, but don’t do it again!” I shouted at Matthew. “I can’t make any promises, Little Kitten.” Woah, that was a new one. Little Kitten. Hm, maybe that was better than Kitten, but then again, maybe it's not. “I will just order the pizza and have them drop it off at the house. Then we can talk there.” Matthew continued to drive. “I don’t want to move away that’s the thing.” I whispered, not caring if he heard or not. “I know, Kitten, I know.” He looked at me for a brief second then, started to focus on the road again.

The rest of the car ride home was quiet, way to quiet honestly. I know that I have grown to like Matthew, but sometimes he is hard to handle. Sometimes I wonder how I can even stand him for a whole day, and other times I can’t stand it when he isn’t around. I took a glance at him to see that he was deep in thought staring at the road as he drove. I turned back and looked out the window. Did I over react when Matt and that guy were fighting?

“I’m sorry.” Matthew then said out of nowhere. I turned to face him. “For what?” I turned to face Matt, but he looked like he was about to cry “Everything, your parents, your friends, about Leah, everything.” I didn’t know what to say. “I-i…..” He cut me off. “It’s just, when i’m around you, I feel different, I feel complete.” He stated, while looking at me. “I didn’t know you felt that way.” I whispered. He turned back to the road and I could see tears lining his eyes. I leaned over and wiped a tear that found it’s way down his face with my finger. He didn’t look at me. I let out a sigh. “Matt, I’m sorry, I over reacted, and I’m sorry for what ever else I’ve done….” I said watching him closely. “....It’s just that I don’t want to lose you too, that’s why I acted the way I did.” I said turning away.

“We should go inside, instead of sitting out here.” He finally said. I nodded and followed him into the apartment. Once inside, I sat down on the couch, as Matthew ordered us pizza. Once he was done with that he came in and sat down next to me. I was about to open my mouth and speak, but he cut me off by resting his head on my shoulder. His brown hair hung over his face, but I could tell he was hiding more tears. I rested my head against his. “Can we just forget that all of that happened? It’s all in the past now.” I asked. “Yeah….Yeah we can….” He whispered. “....And I’m sorry for scaring you at the pizza place.” He stated. I forced him to look at me by picking up his head with my hands. “It’s fine, just be more careful in the future, okay?” I stated. He smiled sweetly, yet sadly, and nodded. I smiled at him and hugged him. He hesitated on hugging me back for a moment. Then his arms wrapped around me and pulled me just a little closer.

We stayed like that for a few minutes sitting in silence. Then the pizza got here and Matt had to get up to go get it. I heard him thank the pizza guy and then he walked in with a box. He placed it in the table and looked over at me. “What?” I asked him. He looked down at the pizza, then back up at me. What is he thinking? “Matthew, I can’t read minds.” I state. But, he ignored me. His stare was bugging me, so I got up to get some pizza. “You can stop staring.” I tell him. He didn’t listen to me. “I don’t understand you, one minute you are crying and being cute, then the next you are being creepy.” I state. Then he smiles at me and I raise a brow. “You think I’m cute?” He asked. I thought over the sentence I just said and realized my mistake. “I never said that.” I tried to cover up.

He smirked at me. That is one thing I like about him. He will get over something so easily, but I also hate it at times too. He goes from being a human, back to being Matthew. “I am pretty sure you said I was cute.” He says leaning on the table. I huffed out a fake pout, which cause him to chuckle. “Can you not let me have this one? Just this one?” I asked him. He smiled big, showing off his dimples and teeth. “That’s not fun.” He states. I roll my eyes at him. I opened the box of pizza and grabbed the biggest slice, knowing that Matthew would “cry” because I grabbed the biggest one.

“That’s my favorite piece!” Matthew said in a whiney tone. “I know that’s why I grabbed it.” I stuck my tongue out at him, and then smiled. I looked back at my slice of pizza and was about to bite it. But before I could, Matthew took the pizza from me and took a huge bite out of it, looked at it, and handed it back to me. “How could you?!” I fake cried at him. “What are you talking about, Kitten, you took that bite, not me!” He smirked as I smiled at him. “No I am pretty sure you took the bite.” I stated playfully. “No, it couldn’t have been me, because I don’t want pizza.” He says looking anywhere but me. “Then why did you order pizza??” I questioned with confusion. He didn’t answer me, so I let out a sigh. “Then what do you want?” I asked instead. He looked at me and smirked. Oh no, what is he thinking? “You want me to tell you what I want?” He asked taking a step closer to me. I didn’t question why he got closer, but I should’ve. “Yes.” I state.

Matthew takes another step closer and wrapps his arm around my waist. I felt my face heat up. “Um….M-Matthew…..?” I stuttered as I looked up at him. His face was right there, just inches away.  “Shh, Kitten.” He says as he leans down and presses his lips to mine. I felt a source of energy run through my body and I kissed him back. His rough lips moved in rhythm with my soft ones. Then he pulled away, removing his arm from my waist. He grabbed a slice of pizza, smiled, and walked back over to the couch. That bitch! He just left me hanging. I picked up my pizza again. Knowing my face was as red as a tomato, I sat down across from him and ate my slice in frustration. I heard him chuckle and look up to find up staring at me. “Jackass.” I mumbled to myself. “I heard that.” He says getting up and getting another slice of pizza. “I don’t care.” I said turning to face anywhere but him.

“Aw, come one Kitten.” I heard him pout. I ignored him, knowing very well if I looked at him then I would fall for the eyes. I hate falling for the eyes. “No.” I crossed my arms over my chest and pout to myself. I felt him walk up behind me and I froze. He slowly wrapped his arms around me and nibbled my ear. “MATT!” I yelled in surprise and jumped up. I turned around and shot him a glare. He just chuckled at me. “You are mean.” I state crossing my arms over my chest yet again. “Aw, come on….” He begged. “No.” I said and made my way over to the bed. I dove into the bed and ignored the other person in the room. “Are you pouting?” He questioned. I lifted my head up. “No.” I pouted and laid my head back down.

“Fine.” I heard him say. Then I felt someone lay down beside me. I turned my head to see him laying on his side staring at me. He smiled big when he saw my face. I smiled slightly back, then let out a yawn. I closed my eyes and I felt the covers get pulled over me. Then I felt Matthew kiss my forehead, before sleep took over.
