Lake Green

I frowned at my best friends failing to tie a knot for the boat. “Do you need some assistance?” I asked him. “No, I got this.” He growled at me in frustration. I scoffed and looked out at the shining, glistening lake. The wind started howling and the air became a little bitter. I shivered and crossed my arms over my chest for warmth. “Wyatt, it’s going to start raining soon.” I winned. He looked up at me with a glare. “Dylan, stop being annoying.” he said plainly to me.

2. Chapter 2

I woke up to the sound of birds chirping outside and the sun beaming through the window onto my face. I felt someone shift in the bed next to me.  For a moment, I couldn’t remember how I got home, but then it hit me.

After I finished crying in Wyatt’s bed, Dominic came in and told me that Matthew was here. Matthew is my care taker, but he isn’t a very good one.

I sat up in the bed and looked around the one roomed apartment that I was sitting in. I turned to see Matthew sleeping soundly next to me.

Matthew is not much older then I am. I am 15 and he is 17. He is tall and pale. His piercings tell a lot about him. And, the ink on his skin tell stories. His dark brown hair hung over his dark blue eyes.

I smiled down at him and stood up. “Matt, wake up.” I said and heard him groan. “Five more minutes, please?” He begged. I let out a sigh and rolled my eyes. I walked over to my dresser and pulled out a shirt and pants. I put them on and made my way to the kitchin. I opened the fridge to see a brand new pack of beer. I frowned and stood up with another sigh. “Matthew.” I growled. “What?” He growled back. I wanted to go strangle him.

WIth a sigh I pulled out the case of beer. “I thought you said that you weren’t going to drink anymore!” I snapped. He sat up in the bed and stared at the case in my hand. “I didn’t buy that.” He stated. I scoffed at him. “Then who did?” I asked him. “Leah did.” He said.

Of course he would blame the beer on alcoholic Leah. “Then where is she? And when did she get back from L.A?” I asked him sliding the beer back in the fridge. Matt stood up and slid on some sweats. “She was here why you were with Wyatt, but I don’t know where she ran off to.” He said walking over to me. “Did she bring anyone back?” I questioned as he picked up a knife. His blue eyes looked at me as he  played with the blade. “Yep, and the little princes seems fun to play with...Oh, and remember the deal, Dylan.” He said with a wink.

I gulped as he slid the knife into the knife holder. “Don’t worry, I remeber, nothing to worry about.” I said. He smirked down at me. “Good.” He laughed a little. I was about to open the fridge again, when I heard the front door open.

I turned to look at the door. There standing in the door was a woman. Her blonde hair was hanging loose around her and her white, gray eyes were hiding behind sunglasses.

“I am back bitches!” She yelled with yet another case of beer. “Leah, you were here yesterday and you already have beer in the fridge.” Matthew stated to the small girl. Leah scoffed at him. “Yeah, but that isn’t enough beer for tonight.” She stated.

I gave them both a glare. Just by the way she was acting, I knew tonight was going to end up bad, and I felt sorry for that girl that Leah brought home. I frowned at myself for thinking that tonight was going to be any better than it is right now.

“Dylan? Hello?” Leah glared at me, making me lose my train of thought. “Huh…,What?” I questioned while looking up at her. “Did you hear a thing I just said?” She practically yelled.  I was about to open my mouth and speak, but Matt beat me too it. “Don’t yell at him!” He snapped at her. I wanted to speak, but I was amazed that he stood up for me. It’s been a long time since he first spoke to her like that. Leah let out a scoff and turned to face him. “I can treat him how ever I please!” She snapped back.

Matthew turned to look at my face, than back at her. “You will not! I pay the bills in this house so therefore, you cannot! If it happens again then you will have to answer to me!” He yelled at her.  She then looked my way with a glare. “Just because he stood up for you today, doesn’t mean he will everyday boy!” She softly spoke, and with that she turned on her heels and left, with her two cases of beer.

“Thank you Matthew.” I spoke in a whispered tone, not knowing if he heard me or not. “Don’t worry about it Kitten.” He smiled. I turned and opened the fridge to hopefully cook breakfast now. Then it hit me. Did he just call me Kitten? Why would he call me that in the first place anyways? First off, I am not cute like one, and I am not fluffy like one, so why? Maybe he just wanted a nickname to call me, but then what if he didn’t and he wanted it to be a name that made fun of me? By now I was confused and couldn’t wrap my finger around it.

“Dylan? Either get something out of the fridge or close it.” Matt broke me from my thoughts. “Alright, alright.” I laughed and looked over what was inside the fridge. “Where are the eggs? They’re gone!” I looked at him confused. I saw him stiffen and he looked at me. “Don’t ask questions you don’t want to know the answers to….” He said and then made his way into the bathroom.

I stared at the bathroom door. I mean, I wanted to ask him, but then again he was right, I didn’t wanted to know the answer to that. With yet another sigh, I closed the fridge door. What was I going to eat now? “Matthew! We need to go to the store! Im starving in here!” I yelled to the closed door. “Can’t you see I am busy!” He yelled back. I froze up again and just stared at the door again. I had a feeling that I didn’t want to know what he was doing.

After a good, long 30 minute wait, he finally came out of the bathroom. “What took so long?!” I yelled at him. “Oh, you don’t want to know my little Kitten.” He said with a smirk on his face. There it was again. The name Kitten. I knew I couldn’t do anything about it, so I just kept thinking of more questions. “Does it have something to do with the eggs?” I laughed. “Maybe it does, maybe it doesn’t. Wanna find out? Go into the bathroom.” He smirked. Oh god, what has he gone and done now? I walked to the bathroom and opened the door. “Wth, Matt! Why have you done this with my breakfast?!” I yelled, looking at all of the smashed eggs on the bathroom floor and mirror. I didn’t know what to think of it, so I grabbed an egg and went to him. “Matthew, can we talk?” I asked. “Sure thing Kitten.” He smiled. “I don’t know why you did that but here!” I smiled and smashed the egg the rest of the way on his head, then I took off running.

I ran out the front door as fast as I could. I knew I was dead meat if he ever caught me. “Dylan, get your ass back here!” I heard him yell from behind me. I didn’t dare look back at the angry tiger chasing me. I ran down to the lake (scenes we live pretty close to the water) and saw a nearby boat house. I ran up to it and opened the door. “Come back here!” I darted in and looked around. I started to panic, he was getting closer.

I ducked behind the boat and prayed that he wouldn’t find me. “Dylan!” I heard him down by the water. Then, everything went silent. I peaked over the boat. No one. I leaned back and let out a sigh. But, only to have two hands wrap around me. I let out a small yelp. “Okay, you can let go of me now, Matt.” I stopped smiling, realizing that Matthew wasn’t the one holding me. I was about to let out a scream, but a hand covered my mouth. “Listen here little boy!” Leah’s familiar voice snapped in my ear. “Matthew is mine! He doesn’t need you!....” She paused and laughed. “In fact, he doesn’t want you!”

Her annoying laugh bounced off the boat house walls. “So, to save him the trouble….I will take kill you myself.” Her cold voice chilled down my spin. “Well to make it more special, shouldn’t I have to say something for you to kill me, instead of him hating you for killing me without a reason?” I said calmly, but on the inside, I knew this was the end. “I will come up with that after you are dead!” She hissed and I felt something cold and sharp hit my leg. I yelped in pain and felt the blood find it’s way down my leg. Then I fainted, but I heard someone.  “What are you doing?!” Matt’s voice broke in. “I can’t believe you would do that! I heard the whole conversation!” He hit my face to keep me awake. “Now, Leah, what am I going to do with you?” I heard him say.

Then everything went black.
