The Haunted

"Oh Lucinda, if you think this has a happy ending, then you haven't been paying attention." She smirked amused by Lucinda's sense of optimism.

Something has come back to Bishops Green. Something that wants to kill. Something unworldly.
Sixteen year old Lucinda Marcs is cute, fun and looking forward to the start of her Junior year of High School. But little does she know that something evil has made it's way into Bishop's Green, her quaint, seemingly normal town where nothing ever happened.
And when Lucinda finds herself caught up in the mess it's up to her to figure out how to get rid of this evil for good.
But what happens when her best friend becomes a target? Will she be able to save her? Or will she fall with her?

22. Chapter-Two:

Lucinda sat cross-legged on her bed with the book open in front of her. She had re-read the paragraphs Brad had already read to her and was about to move on. She was still having reservations though. She knew that if what Brad was saying was true it could change her life and her whole outlook on everything. But she needed to know.

After The Ivy Witch was dragged through to Hell and her curse was put upon the town Bishop's Green forgot about the lonely maid and moved on with their lives. Until seventy years later when a group of teenagers went into the woods and accidentally resurrected her spirit. The young woman who'd given up her life for love was here to plague the town of Bishop's Green for the first time as The Ivy Witch. But she was unaware of the one person who posed a threat to her revenge. Someone who could fight against her darkness and save the town.

The Marcs family had been brought to Bishop's Green by the will of the local Bishop to help protect the town from the young woman's evil curse. Annie Marcs was seventeen at the time the Ivy Witch was brought back and had yet to tap into her abilities. The young girl was haunted by nightmares and dreams as the townsfolk around her began to perish. It was in these dreams that Annie Marcs would find out who she was and how she could rid the town of it's evil.

Annie first faced The Ivy Witch in her dreams and these nightmares taught her how to defend herself against such powerful evil. Though the witch had strong powers of her own Annie was born with a bright power that used correctly could defeat the witch.

Unprepared but desperate to save her town Annie came face to face with the witch prepared to send her back to Hell. The Witch armed herself with a rally of Demonic shadows for Annie to fight off before she could get to her. Armed with a few stories and books about how light magic had been able to defeat the darkness before Annie was determined to win. She fought off the Demons that surrounded the witch turning them into a thick grey smoke that blew away in the wind. Then she faced her final opponent. The Ivy Witch.

Annie Marcs was able to withstand the violent blows of power from the witch before she could show her what she was made of. The young teenager blasted the hellbent witch with her own power hitting her right in the chest. As the witch struggled and collapsed to the ground Annie watched on triumphantly having defeated the evil and protected her town.

Since Annie fought the witch there have been three more sightings of her powers and the small town of Bishop's Green will always be haunted by the curse she placed upon it.

Lucinda closed the book with still a few more chapters to read though she figured she'd read enough. She understood why Brad wanted her to read it. After all it wasn't just the picture of Annie that was similar to Lucinda. She'd been having nightmares and people in her town were dying. It was history repeating itself.

Lucinda had never given in to the idea of believing in magic but she knew if this was all real she would have to. If what Brad was telling her is true her family would be the ones to save Bishop's Green but she had no idea how. Annie had spent time reading through books and researching before she faced the witch and Lucinda knew nothing about what power her family was supposed to have.

One thing she needed to do first was ask her parents about Annie. If she was going to fully believe she wanted to know if Annie really was apart of their family.

Lucinda suddenly wished she had Brads number so she could phone him and tell him she'd finished the story but she couldn't. She also wished Brad would be honest about who he was to her and how he knew all of this. He wasn't a Marcs and unless he was involved with the witch plaguing the town there was no other way for him to know. He'd appeared from nowhere and no one really knew anything about him.

She placed the book back on her bedside table next to her lamp and slid off her bed. She suddenly wanted out so she slipped on her trainers, grabbed her phone and keys and walked out of her room. She hurried down the stairs and out the front door. Checking her phone she saw she had two hours before her parents would be home, that was enough time to go for a walk and come back without them knowing she'd left the house.

She shoved her phone and keys into her jean pockets and walked down the pathway in front of her house. Turning left she walked in the direction of the woods. She knew it was a bad idea and that the woods was somewhere she should stay far away from but she couldn't stop herself. She knew they'd still be cordoned off and she had no intention of going in there she merely wanted to walk by them.

The fresh air seeped into her lungs and she felt lighter as she walked down the street. She hadn't realised how suffocating being couped up inside could be. Lucinda never spent one whole day inside unless she was ill and even then she managed to sit in the garden for a few hours so being told to stay inside hadn't worked out as well as she'd thought it would. Though she was sure that was more Brad's fault than hers.

She still couldn't believe he'd been in her house or that he'd riddled her brain with these fantasy stories that might have been more like real life than just stories. It was all still so hard to comprehend and she was sure if she thought too hard about it she'd go insane. But there was still something about him. The mysterious, gorgeous new kid. Yet she hadn't fallen head over heels for him like everyone else had. Sure she thought he was good looking and that he had those gorgeous brown eyes you could just fall into but she had been nervous around him from the start. She had never warmed to him and she wondered why. Apart from her horrible dreams she didn't really have any reason to be so mean to him. It also didn't help that everyone else had gone so gaga over him.

Maybe he really was something special. Lucinda just didn't see it.

"I knew you'd go." A voice behind her said and she stopped walking. She rolled her eyes knowing who was behind her before she turned around and stared at him. "Are you following me?" She asked crossing her arms over her chest. "I like to think of it as keeping an eye on you." He smirked. "So you are following me. That's called stalking you know?" She argued back trying to hide the smile from her face.

"You read the rest of the story then?" He asked already knowing the answer. She nodded, "I'm still not sure though." Brad laughed, "that doesn't surprise me. It's a lot to take in." Lucinda nodded her head but didn't say anything else. She wasn't sure there was anything else to say. Maybe he really did just want to help her.

"So can I walk with you or do you want me to stay a few steps back?" He joked. Lucinda laughed and said, "I don't know I wouldn't want to ruin your mysterious reputation by allowing you to walk with me."

"Ahh right and what's a man without his reputation." Brad replied.

Lucinda smiled brightly at him feeling genuinely relaxed in his presence. As she looked at him smiling back at her she wondered how she ever thought he could be killing people. She'd been crazy. "You may walk with me on one condition." He raised his eyebrows and waited for her to state her claims, "We talk about you and only you. You seem to know so much about me and yet I don't even know your last name." She said. Brad smirked not having expected that request but he nodded in agreement.

"Ok, well my last name is Summers," He began as the pair walked off down the street together.
