The Haunted

"Oh Lucinda, if you think this has a happy ending, then you haven't been paying attention." She smirked amused by Lucinda's sense of optimism.

Something has come back to Bishops Green. Something that wants to kill. Something unworldly.
Sixteen year old Lucinda Marcs is cute, fun and looking forward to the start of her Junior year of High School. But little does she know that something evil has made it's way into Bishop's Green, her quaint, seemingly normal town where nothing ever happened.
And when Lucinda finds herself caught up in the mess it's up to her to figure out how to get rid of this evil for good.
But what happens when her best friend becomes a target? Will she be able to save her? Or will she fall with her?

11. Chapter Eleven:

The sound of the sirens rang through Lucinda's head even after they'd stopped. She couldn't fight the noise repeating itself round and round. This was no longer a dream. She had seen him lying there almost as if he was asleep.

"So you two found the body correct?" Patrick Johnson, the local police sheriff, asked Noah and Lucinda as he approached them. Lucinda nodded afraid to speak as Noah said, "Yes, we found him lying there." Noah had never found a dead body before and was unaware of what he should and shouldn't say.

"Ok and was there anyone else in the woods?" Johnson asked. Noah shook his head and said, "Not that we could see, it was just us." The police sheriff nodded solemnly, "Ok, I'll need to take you to the station to get full statements. You can wait over by the car for now." He told the teenagers nodding towards his cop car.

Lucinda and Noah walked off towards the sheriffs car and leant against the bonnet. Lucinda's heart was still racing, she had seen a dead body. Not just any dead body, another one of her classmates. Noah kept his arm around his sister trying to comfort her though he wasn't sure it was helping. He felt like ice inside and he couldn't shake the horrible thoughts running around his head.

Kyle Moore was dead in the middle of the woods. Lucinda had only seen him yesterday as she'd walked through the school hallway. This couldn't be an accident. Two teenagers found dead in one week, something suspicious was going on.

Lucinda breathed heavily in and out trying to regain a normal heart rate. A quick movement to the right of her caught her eye and she saw someone in the distance watching everything unfold. She didn't recognise his face but she knew instantly who it was. He had dark floppy hair, good fashion sense and though Lucinda couldn't see his eyes she could've guessed they were deep enough to fall into. It was Brad. Poppy had been right he was gorgeous, like something out of one of those antique paintings her parents loved so much.

"Isn't that the new kid in your year?" Noah asked noticing him too. Lucinda nodded and said, "I think so yeah." Lucinda knew it was but didn't want to associate herself with him as this was the first time she'd actually seen him in the flesh. And she couldn't help but wonder what he was doing at a crime scene. He wasn't just walking past out in the open, he was lurking. But why?

"You know Alanna met him before school started," Noah said receiving Lucinda's full attention. "What?" She asked. "Yeah, her mom showed his parents around and then invited them round for dinner. She said he was nice but very quiet." Noah explained. Something didn't sit right with Lucinda. Alanna's parents were property agents which meant they would've helped Brad and his family find a home in Bishop's Green and it didn't surprise Lucinda that they'd offered to show them around town. Lucinda's mind ran away with ridiculous ideas and suspicions that she tried to convince herself weren't true. She was scared that was all.

"Right, let's go." Sheriff Johnson pulled Lucinda out of her thoughts as he opened the back of his car for her and Noah. The siblings slipped inside and buckled themselves up. Johnson hopped into the front seat and quickly started the car. Lucinda wondered if her and Noah would be suspects after finding the body. It seemed unlikely but right now her mind seemed to be coming up with all sorts of ideas.

The drive to the station was short and quiet which Lucinda was grateful for. She hated long car journeys especially when she was anxious.

Her and Noah were pulled out of the car and walked into the reception. "I have to interview these two are the rooms free?" Johnson asked Penelope the receptionist. She smiled sweetly at him and nodded, it was well known that Penelope and Johnson had a thing going on. Lucinda wondered how hard it would be to work with someone you were in a relationship with. Not that it mattered right now.

"Right, down this way." Johnson said and walked off down the hall. Lucinda and Noah followed behind obediently. The Sheriff opened one of the grey wooden doors and gestured for the pair to go inside. He followed behind them and took the single seat opposite them. Johnson braced his elbows on the table clasping his hands together, he looked tired Lucinda noticed.

"Now shall we start at the beginning." He said and turned on the tape recorder.

"I'd been having nightmares about the woods," Lucinda began deciding honesty was the best policy. "I thought if I took a walk through them it would show me there was nothing to worry about." She sighed. That hadn't exactly worked, she thought. If anything she was more scared of the woods now than she had been before. "I followed her in there wondering what she could be doing in the woods and that's when I saw him." Noah explained his fists clenching on the table.

"That's all that happened?" Johnson questioned staring between the two teenagers. Lucinda nodded and said, "We were about to leave when Noah saw something. It wasn't till we got closer we realised what it was." Or who it was, Noah thought.

The Sheriff nodded and turned off the recording, "is that it?" Lucinda asked expecting to be there for a lot longer. "Yup, I just needed to get your story on tape for evidence." The Sheriff told them. Lucinda nodded and stood up from her chair, "so we can go?" She asked. The Sheriff followed her actions standing from his own chair and nodded. "Yes, of course. Thank you both." He walked towards the door and opened it. He waited for Noah and Lucinda to leave the room first before following them out.

"I just have one question." Noah said turning around to face Patrick. "What is it?" Johnson asked curiously. "His body, was that how they found Alanna?" Lucinda wasn't sure what had made him ask but she couldn't deny the question had gone through her mind. Johnson sighed heavily and said, "yes." Noah nodded and turned to walk away. He looped his arm through Lucinda's and pulled him with her.

Lucinda felt shivers running up and down her body and though she had a thick jumper on she felt extremely cold. She was definitely not getting rid of her nightmares anytime soon.
