11. Lost and Cheated.

Chapter Eleven

Last Time: Quickly, I kissed him passionately, one hand tightly holding onto his hair, the other gripping around his neck. The kiss was different, nothing like with Aiden. Aiden was gentle but Mason… The fact that we shouldn’t be doing this made us want it more. Our lips connected like our lives depended on it, all my anger was channelled into him.

NOW…

The sun blinded me through the curtains, I was unaware of my surroundings and I had a pounding headache. What had I done last night? Where was I? All my questions were answered when I turned around to see a shirtless Mason lying next to me, sleeping. My memories from last night came rushing back. Although Aiden got Mia pregnant, I still managed to feel guilty. Rapidly, I chucked my clothes on from yesterday and rushed out of the door, I couldn’t face Mason after yesterday. When I looked at my phone, I realised the time; I was late for school.

I sneaked into my house, luckily my dad wasn’t in, he probably thought I came back late and then went to school early. There was no way I was going school today with the world’s biggest headache.

After hours of sleeping, there was a knock on the door. Opening it, I saw Aiden.

“Oh, for crying out loud. Take a hint Aiden.” Shutting the door again.

“Malia, just let me explain.”

I had to get this over and done with so I let him in. Gesturing for him to take a seat on the sofa, I asked him what he wanted.

“The baby isn’t mine Malia. I swear to you.” He said putting his hands softly on my knees.

“Don’t lie to me, Aiden. Why would she say that?”

“She wanted to get under your skin because we broke up and she knows I love you. I’m so sorry.”

I sighed, in a way I didn’t want what he was saying to be true because then I would’ve had no reason to have been  with Mason, no excuse. Nodding, I said “Okay, I’m sorry.”

He hugged me tightly. “Why didn’t you come to school today?”

“Oh, um.” I couldn’t tell him about Mason, he would hate me for betraying him. “I’m not really feeling well. Plus, exams are over now. Didn’t miss much.”

“Yeah true, but we need to talk about Colleges. I got into UC Berkley. You applied too, right?”

“Ah, well done. And Yep.”

**

The next few days at school we amazing, we were acting like a real couple but I couldn’t help but feel so much guilt. We hadn’t discussed if we were official yet but I knew he would be heartbroken. I regretted it but didn’t at the same time, I really liked Mason. He was fun, he understood me in a way Aiden never would and his face was a plus but I was probably never going to see him again so there was no point dwelling over it.

“Hey.” Aiden came over to me in the corridors.

“Hey, how’s class?”

“Is that even a real question?” he laughed.

“Oh guess what!” I screamed.

“What?”

“I got into UC. They just need to send over my Dorm details.”

“Oh my god!” He exclaimed, giving me a kiss. Pulling away, he pointed to someone who was waiting behind me. I turned around to see a very familiar face, Mason.

“Mason, you’re here.” I said.

“Malia! I transferred here from my old school to do my finals before College.” Mason said, starting to pick me up off my feet, hugging me. He was so much taller than me so, I couldn’t lie his hugs were amazing. This was awkward, the guy that I just had a drunken kiss with was hugging me as my sort of boyfriend stood behind me. What an amazing day!

“Sorry, Mason this is Aiden and vice-versa.” Smiling uncomfortably.

“So, how do you guys know each other?” Aiden sternly said, obviously Intimated by Mason.

“Well…” Mason laughed. I slyly nudged him and continued.

“Mason was just going to say that; our parents knew each other. Yep that’s it.”

As soon as I stopped talking, the bell rang. Saved by the bell as they say. “Well, I’ve got Maths. I have got to run!”

Mason eyed his timetable quickly and said, “Oh, me too!”

“Heh.”

Aiden went the other way and Mason and I walked to class.

“Mason, what are you doing hugging me like that in front of him?” I asked, stopping for a minute so we faced each other.

“What? Is he your boyfriend? You should’ve told me that before we…”

“Jesus, stop!” I said looking around for witnesses. “He’s not… It’s complicated.” I said as Mason grinned.

“Well, I’m glad.”

Afterschool, I stood and talked to Aiden for a bit. I was hoping he didn’t mention anything about my lie of a story or Mason because I didn’t know If I could lie to him once more. I was also hoping that I wouldn’t run into Mason; for some reason I had an urge to kiss him whenever he was near and I couldn’t have Aiden seeing anything.

“So, I was thinking we could go to this diner for something to eat?”

“Yeah that’d be cool! I’m starving man.”

Of course, Mason walked out of the gates coming towards us. “Hey guys.”

Aiden nodded, moving closer towards me. “Hey!” I said, moving away from Aiden, he was making me claustrophobic. Maddison, my dear old friend that absolutely hated me randomly ran over to us.

“Who’s your friend, Malia?”

“You know Aiden and this is Mason. He just transferred here.”

“Oooh Mason. I’m Maddison.” Before Mason could even get a word out, she carried on. “Why don’t we go out? Are you busy like…. Now?”

“Um, I’m not doing anything. I suppose we could go out for something to eat.”

There was no way I was letting Maddison get her claws on him, she was horrific, toxic, unhealthy for any man in this world. “No!” I stopped, Aiden gave me a look. “I mean; you guys should come with us, we’re going to this diner.”

“Yeah! Great idea, Malia.” Mason said, resting his hand on my shoulder.

In the car, I sat in the passenger seat, Mason and Maddison were in the back and Aiden drove. The whole way there, Mason made conversation with me whilst Maddison threw her hands all over his enormous bi-ceps, stupid girl. Aiden was silent the whole way there, green with jealousy.

As we sat in the booth, all I could think about was Mason. Yes, I loved Aiden but there was just something about Mason.

“Ok, so how about we get the Peperoni Pizza to share?” Aiden asked, pulling me out of my deep day dream.

“Huh? Sorry, yeah. Sure.”

“Cool, I’ll go order.” He said.

Maddison and her high-pitched voice started to talk, “I’m going to freshen up in the lady’s room, come with, Malia?”

“No, I’m good here thanks.”

“Come on!”

“Maddison, we’re not friends. I’m not coming to ‘Freshen up’ with you.” I said, Maddison stormed off leaving me with Mason.

“Ooh, I love it when you’re feisty.” Mason laughed, making a growling noise with his mouth.

“Wow Mason.” I said tittering back. “Wait, by the way. Please could we keep the fact that we you know… keep it quiet.

“Why?”

“If Aiden found out that we kissed and I slept at yours the other night, it would break his heart.”

Suddenly, I heard someone’s footsteps behind me, approaching the booth. “You’re right, it would break my heart, Malia.” Aiden shouted, now furiously stomping out of the diner.
