Geordie Blow Shotton got on well with Nancy, George’s wife she had her hair in a beehive style was pair shaped with fat legs. Young George often wondered how his father was able to get between those fat rubbery looking legs.

Albert pulled in at the garage and the young lad filled up for him. He gave the young lad a twenty pound note and got fifteen quid change. He carried on his journey until he reached the hotel.

Sid McCullough came out shortly after and got in the back after dumping his case in the boot.

“Jesus said McCullough, who the hell died in here?’ It smells like a shithouse.’

“Sorry Mr McCullough I haven’t had time to clean the car, I’ve been working flat out for seventeen hours straight for the last two years.’

“You won’t be working at all if you don’t get an air freshener in here. It smells like a puffs brothel in here. Albert kept a straight face then pulled away.’

“So where are you off on holiday?’

“Tenerife, its hot all the year round over there.’

Albert knew that he would be meeting some of his friends who were exiles over there either on the run or spending the money they had made from some big robbery choosing to live luxurious lifestyles in the sun and not pay the British taxes.

Sid made his money from property developing and other dodgy dealings. The two men made small talk to the airport and Sid gave him a ten pound note. Albert was about to give him change when he held up his hand.

“Keep it and get this bloody car cleaned out.’

“Thanks said Albert as he got out and helped him with his case out of the boot.’

“Enjoy your holiday Mr McCullough.’ McCullough ignored him then walked through the doors of the airport terminal building.

Albert radioed the office then waited for a call to pick up. If he could get a run back with someone it would be another fiver at least.

He was feeling hungry as he sat in the car. Winding down all the windows to try and let out the stink, he sat back thinking of a full English breakfast from Mickey Browns café on Saville Street. His stomach growled away as a family approached the car.

“Are you for hire?’

“Yes sir, where are you going?’

“Can you take us to Forrest Hall please.’

“Certainly Albert got out and place the two large cases in the back then opened the door for his wife and two small children.’

“I’m sorry if it smells a bit in here, I’ve just had a bloke in here with large dog.’

“I thought I could smell something said the woman as she sat down. Would you like me to keep the windows open?’

“That would be a good idea I think.’

The cold wind blew in through the open windows as Albert drove them back home. They had been to Majorca for a week and Albert sat listening intently as they told him all about their holiday. How he wished his football pools would come in so he could take his wife somewhere like that.

The man gave him a pound tip when he dropped them off so he drove to a near by shop and bought some air freshener. He came out and sprayed the car inside before heading back into North Shields and into Mickey’s café.
