They drove them in the Mercedes Benz cars around the island where they delivered the weed themselves and normal service was resumed. Well that was until Paddy Devlin took a trip out to Tenerife’ he’d heard through the grapevine about Forster and Patterson and how much money they were raking in each week and he wanted a piece of it. Both he and Sid McCullough spent a month out there just weighing up the opposition. They figured a take over would be easy.

Dennis Lord met with Carlo Lopez where a deal was struck about who would control Tenerife and who would run Gran Canaria. Allan Forster was not happy about the arrangement but Carlo assured him that they would soon be running Majorca and Minorca. When Paddy Leonard found out about the drug trade abroad he too wanted a piece of it. Again a power struggle was taking place and it wasn’t long before bodies were found washed up on the beaches. The police were now taking a big interest and it was that prompted the two young lads to get out whilst the going was good.

Steven and Allan flew back to England. They were rich men and they thought that they could just walk away from the life that they had been leading for the last eighteen months. Carlo Lopez had other Ideas about that he was not getting his regular pay packet from the two lads which kept him in a millionaire’s paradise. He had now a beautiful mansion house with electronic gates and security cameras right round the whole building.

He used his contacts to try and locate the two young lads.’ Dennis Lord rang Sid McCullough who then spoke to Paddy Devlin on the phone.’

“Petty criminals that’s all they ever were said Devlin whose voice had began to croak a little since coming back from Tenerife.

“I think you need to go see a doctor about that cough of yours it seems to be getting worse said Sid.’

“It’s the tabs man; if I could give them up I wouldn’t have this bloody cough.’

“Do you have any idea where the two young pups might be?’

“They are not in North Shields because I’ve spoken with Forster’s Mother. She hasn’t seen hide nor hare of either of them.’

“Well keep you ears to the ground and if you do hear anything get back to me.’

The plane landed at Heathrow Airport. Allan said that it wouldn’t be wise to go into

North Shields until the heat was off. They could find a cheap hotel that served a good breakfast and hang around London for a few months.

Allan told Steven to keep a low profile and not to go splashing the cash around or someone would find out and Dobb them into the police. Worse still if the Kray’s found out that it was them who had done a job on Pitt-bull Taylor their lives wouldn’t be worth tuppence. Steven hated staying in and hiding like frightened rabbits. It was Ironic that the small bed and breakfast that they were staying in was on Warren Street not far from Kings Cross. They waited until December 1964 before slipping into Newcastle by train it was one o’clock in the morning and it was freezing cold when they arrived. They had set off at 5pm changing trains throughout the day plus the long delays made the journey twice as long. A taxi finally brought them home and Allan slipped the key in the lock of his mother’s house and let himself in.

“Who’s there shouted his mother as the two men stood in the passage.’

“It me Ma’ Allan, be quiet or the neighbour upstairs will hear you.’

His mother jumped out of bed and threw her dressing gown on then came to her son and hugged him.

“When did you get in son?’

“We came straight here.’
