“You know Dave you’ve given me a great idea said John Bridgett thoughtfully. How would you like to open the show with that song next week?’

“Where are you all playing?’

“The Newcastle Labour Club.’

“I don’t know John that was just a bit of a laugh mate.’

“It was brilliant and it would get the crowd going as well; you will be performing not only for yourself but for every disabled person out there.’

“We’ll see mate I’d have to have a few beers down my neck first.’

“Alright what about doing the second half?’

“As long as you guys back me up then I’ll do it.’

“Great this will bring the house down I’m telling you.’

As darkness began to fall the lights of Blackpool really came into there own; it was just like Las Vegas as they walked along the strip. Both the girls and the lads bought sticks of rock to take home to family members.

They were hungry now so they looked for a fish and chip shop. Luckily for them the one they did find had toilets that were free to use. Each of them changed back into their clothes as the parcels were put up for them. They grabbed a wooden fork then set about the fish supper. They had to meet the bus in the car park at 9 pm. They found a bench to sit down on where they ate their supper.’

George asked someone to take another photo of them with the lights all shining behind them.

“This has been a great day out hasn’t it girls?’

“Yes said Betty as she held onto Eric’s hand.

“Just a moment said John as he went back to the chip shop.’

“He’s not gone back to get more has he said Liz inquisitively.’

A few seconds later he came out of the shop with his fist in the air.’

“What is it asked Liz?’

We beat Leeds United 3-1 this afternoon.’ now this is the best day ever he announced.’

Newcastle, Newcastle, Newcastle, he sang as they walked back to where the coach was parked. It was only eight forty but the driver let them on. “I hope that you haven’t got greasy hands with all those fish and chips you’ve just scoffed.

“No we used my towel to wipe them on said John Bridgett.

“Someone’s got some sense anyway said Alan Ellerby.’ “They usually wipe their greasy fingers on my seats and I’ve got the buggers to wash.

“Is there any beer left asked Dave?’

“Aye there’s some of Amos’s down at the front.’

“Go on then go and nick us a bottle each.’

Eric walked down to Mr Amos’s seat und underneath he found a carrier bag with six bottles of Brown Ale. He picked it up where five of the bottles were quickly opened and then drank. They did leave Amos one bottle and replaced the bag back under the seat.

They could see the others making their way towards the coach. They were singing away as they carried sticks of rock in carrier bags and cuddly toys won at the fair.

Many had been in the pubs and were well served. The driver of the other coach wasn’t going to let them on and warned them if they were sick on his bus they would receive a bill from the company.’

Allen Ellerby let those on his bus back on and when they were all accounted for headed out of the car park and back to North Shields.
