4. Pharmacies and In-N-Out

"Chris, I just--I can't get it out of my head," I said to her. It came out pretty muffled because I was face down on her bed.

Her hand was rubbing my back, which was extremely soothing.

"Of course you can't, Hun. It happened just yesterday. Something that traumatic can't just go away," she said.

I sighed and turned over. "I just want to be able to sleep tonight."

She shrugged. "Wanna go to the pharmacy? They should have some kind of sleeping aid."

I scrunched my nose. "Don't wanna move."

She popped my leg playfully. "Get up. We're going to the pharmacy."

"No."

"Ame."

"Chris."

"Amelia!"

"Christine!"

She blew out an exasperated breath, and I figured she'd let it go.

I thought wrong.

She grabbed my leg and pulled me off her bed. My butt landed hard on the floor. I cursed her profusely, before standing.

"What the hell, Christine?" I asked rubbing my butt.

She shrugged and grabbed her keys. "Let's go."

I glared at her and slipped on my shoes. "F*cking she-devil."

We drove to a nearby CVS to find a sleeping aid, but we seemed to be running out of luck. I told her we should split up and cover more ground.

I went to the feminine hygiene products first because I'd forgotten I was out of tampons.

"Always, U, store brand," I mumbled. "Ah! Tampax."

I grabbed the box and made my way to the cough syrups. I walked all the way down until I saw NyQuil. I laughed because Christine loved NyQuil. Like I'm pretty sure she drinks it for fun. It makes her loopy as hell, but it knocks her out like a light.

I'd bent down to snag a bottle, and when I came up, I bumped into someone.

"Whoops," I started. "Sorry sir."

I looked up and saw the one and only Donovan Barrack, and my eye bugged.

Crap.

"Well hello, Amelia," he said flatly. He looked bored with the situation and very much ready to leave.

I'd forgotten all about the date. But it obviously wasn't my fault since I was freaking kidnapped.

"You were what?" He said.

Sh*t. Talking aloud again.

"Uhm," I started. I shuffled and bit my lip. "Donovan, I am so sorry for standing you up. I honestly didn't mean to."

His lips pursed, so I sighed.

"Okay, look. How about I make it up to you?"

He raised an inquisitive eyebrow. "I'm listening."

A smile spread across my face. "How do you feel about In-N-Out?"

His brows then furrowed. "In-N-Out? What is that?"

My eyes grew wide, and my mouth popped open. "How do you not know what In-N-Out is? It's literally the best burger place ever."

To be honest, I understood why he didn't know what it was. Donovan was a businessman. He ate at fancy restaurants and five-star hotels, hell, he was trying to take me to Giovanni's for Christ's sake.

And although it wasn't my fault, I owed him a date.

"Well, I'm much more used to, for a lack of better words, fancier restaurants," he said.

I smiled at him. "Well meet me here at seven, and we can go to In-N-Out. My treat. I'll give you the exact reason why I wasn't able to came last night. Figured I owed you that much."

A smile eased its way to his face. "Alright. I'll be there."

"Amelia!" I heard from behind me.

I turned to see my dark haired best friend jogging toward me. She had a basket filled with snacks. I smiled at her.

"Sup Chris?"

She paused when she realized who I was standing next to. Pointing a finger, she stumbled, "Y-you're Donovan Barrack! Y-you're one of the r-richest men in America."

I laughed and gazed up at Donovan. He had an easy smile on his lips.

"Yes. That's me," he said.

"Wow, you're handsome."

My eyes grew wide. "Chris!" I hissed.

She blinked before looking at me. She chuckled nervously. "Heh, s-sorry. My bad, Ame. He's all yours. I'll, uh, meet you in the car."

She nodded to herself and walked away.

I sighed and pressed a hand to my head, shaking it. "I'm so sorry about her."

Donovan laughed lightly and shook his head. "No, no. It's fine. I'm used to it."

I laughed. "I guess I should go see if she's alright. I'll see you tonight?"

He nodded. He stepped a little closer to me, and I felt my skin heat up. He started to lean down, and I began to panic. But his lips touched mine, and holy crap, they felt so soft.

They were kind of thin but super perfect. They moved against mine in what seemed like a natural flow, and I was all for it.

My hand touched his cheek that was covered in light stubble. I moaned softly and pulled away slightly. I looked up into his green eyes and smiled.

His lips were faintly touching mine, and he whispered, "Since I didn't get to do that last night."

F*******ck.

After kissing my life away with Mr. CEO, I paid for my stuff and met Christine in the car.

"Holy sh*t, Ame! That was Donovan Barrack!"

I laughed, still giggly and breathless. "Yeah... I know."

"I can not believe you know him. Holy crap. That's insane," she said as she started the engine.

"Yeah... I know. He's letting me take him to In-N-Out tonight, as a sorry for not purposely standing him up last night. I plan to tell him everything about it," I said.

We pulled out and drove home.

I was in my room, playing on my laptop when I got a text from Donovan.

It said: Call me.

I furrowed my brows but complied and dialed his number.

"Amelia?" he asked when he picked up.

"Duh, who else would it be?" I said with a slight laugh.

He chuckled back. "Uhm, I just--what do I wear?"

I busted with laughter. "Y-you don't know what to wear?"

"I'd prefer you not laughing at me, Amelia," he said flatly.

I sobered up before responding. "I'm sorry, Donovan. It's just kind of cute."

"I don't think I've ever been called cute before," he said.

I laid against headboard. "Well, do you have a pair of jeans and a t-shirt?"

He fell silent.

I raised a brow. "Donovan?" I started. "You don't own jeans, do you?"

"No," he sighed. "I don't."

"Well that does it. We're going shopping. Meet me at the Lakewood Mall in twenty minutes. I'll be in the front," I told him.

"Ame--" he tried.

"Nope. We're going shopping. See you soon, Mr. Barrack."

I hung up the phone and checked myself out in the mirror. I looked pretty okay. I pulled my hair into a ponytail and applied some mascara and eyeliner to my waterline.

I swiped some Chapstick on lips and made my way downstairs.

"Mom! I'm headed to the mall! Be back by eight!" I yelled as I darted out the door.

I got in the car and began driving. I realized I was kind of thirsty so I stopped the nearest McDonald's and got a large sweet tea.

I then drove to the mall and searched desperately for parking. Fortunately, I found some. I got out with my tea and went to the front of the mall. There were benches in case people wanted to sit, which I did.

So I sat down and sipped on my tea, waiting for Donovan to show up. Thankfully I didn't have to wait long. I saw a town car pull up in front of me and out came Donovan.

I threw my cup away and met him halfway. He bent down and kissed me, which I was not expecting, but I wasn't gonna say no.

I kissed him back gladly before pulling away.

"Well, hello to you too," I said with a small laugh.

He laughed back and kept the smile. Damn, he had a nice smile. He had a nice everything to be honest. Good God.

He was dressed in a pair of slacks and a button up with the sleeves rolled up. Talk about business casual.

"I guess I was happy to see you," he said.
