21. Chapter 16

This was it. I was standing outside of the glass doors to a place I once considered positive part of my life. It's endless windows reflected back a diffused image of myself. Winston Headquarters.

Any thought of me quitting was easily shot down. Even though I would want to more than anything, I wasn't an option for me. Sure it would sure feel good to march all the way up those stairs and yell I quit right into his perfect face, but I would only end up where I started. Broke.

I took a deep breath to swallow my nerves before walking in. The whole situation seemed oddly similar to when I first entered those doors, but this time nervous butterflies didn't fill just my stomach, but my whole entire body.

As people passed me across the stairwell, it seemed they stared for just a spilt second longer. Like they knew what happened.

My standing in the company shouldn't of changed right. Why was everyone looking at me like that.

I door I dreaded to see, finally was right before me, not even several flights of stairs could buy me enough time.

I flattened my navy pleated skirt, and smoothed my white ruffled blouse. Then pushed the heavy, wooden door.

What the hell.

I started aggressively pushing at the door, but it wouldn't open. So much for nervousness.

"Where are those FBI door knocking down things when you need them" I grumbled .

"It's a pull not push" answered the voice I had grown to know maybe even love.

I turned around to see his usually well put together self, the opposite. Suit wrinkled, hair tousled, eyes glazed.

No matter how many times I practiced this conversation in my mind for the past two days. It all went down the drain, my mind was blank.

"You know there an easier ways to hand in you resignation" he shrugged looking at his shoes. His voice seemed monotone as if he had practiced this conversation as well.

"I'm not leaving" I answered

He faltered completing, he slowly rose her gaze with mine. "You're not?"

"Don't think I'm doing this for your Royal butt, I still have a house to pay for. Not everyone filthy rich" I started to rant, but stopped as soon as I saw his saddened face.

"I'm so sorry Lainey, about everything. I know nothing I say will make up for all of the lies I said, but I'm willing to try." He blurted "You know you were person in years who didn't know who I was, who didn't just try to get to know me just because I'm the Prince."

"I guess I got a little too caught up in.." He started to laugh hysterically.  "You really don't understand how terrible it is, everyone  judging your ever move one wrong step and you would be criticized in every possible way imaginable. " He stopped abruptly regaining his breath. "And when you finally meet someone who makes none of that matter, you go and mess it up." he became silent looking me start in the eyes.

"I am so sorry Lainey, I completely understand if you don't even want to talk to me ever again"

My mind buzzed with possible things I could say back, I wanted to be mad at him I truly did, but where would that get me. I was at a point where he was a giant piece in my life, without him there with me everyday I would just be, miserable. Like it or not, he had wiggled his Royal butt into my life, there was no emergency exit for me to back out of, we were stuck together.

I could make this long and miserable for the both of us, or I could just cut it down to the chase. From what I could tell he needed me and I him.

I took a deep breath closing my eyes "Some fries and a milkshake would be a good start of earning my forgiveness" I stated

It was true some good old fast food never could disappoint.

His face was still blank seeming to process the information. "After work, we could go to dairy queen?"

"That sounds good" I smiled

"Okay" He laughed "Well see you then" He exclaimed like a giddy teenager when a girl says yes to go on a date with them.

He walked towards his office with a little bit more pep in his step.

I'm going on a date with a Prince, who also happens to be my boss. Well Sh#t.
