"I mean this sincerely with every fiber of my being, I find you to be vile and extremely repugnant. I have the most extreme contempt for you and I loath you completely."

With that said he thrusts forward towards Victoria, heated hostility in his eyes and a wood stake clutched tightly in his fist.

Maybe this vampire had bit off more than she could chew. Does she really think she'll be able to keep her secret forever? As if having a curious mortal man on her hands isn't enough, an experienced bloodthirsty vampire bent on revenge, with bitterness and unrelenting hatred in his heart, is determined to get his hands on her, to destroy her once and for all.

26. Chapter Twenty-Four

"Idiot!" Lilith bellows at Carter.

"You can't even do one task right. Kill that wretched wench, but you were too stupid to do even that. She killed your brother you know."

"I need not be reminded of that mother" he spat in retort.

Lilith narrows her blue eyes at him,  "You dare to raise your voice at me, boy?!"

She seizes him by the throat, he struggles to no avail. How could he possibly win against the mother of all vampires? She has the strength of a dozen vampires and the rage of hundreds of years built up in her. Not to mention that she has powers no other vampires possess.

"She killed Eric, he was my son. I gave him birth, just as I did you. But mark my words boy, son or not, you fail me again and I'll gladly kill you myself."

She simply tosses him to the side like trash, he sits on the floor unsure of what to do.

She turns away from him, flipping her long, shiny black hair over her shoulder she remarks in a low gravelly tone, "Get out of my sight."

Carter doesn't move at all, so she turns back towards him. Flames of anger burn in her eyes, darkness had consumed her soul hundreds of years ago. She knew neither love, kindness, nor mercy. She didn't even care about her two sons, she just couldn't let Eric's murder go unaccounted for. Victoria had to pay, for she dared to tangle with Lilith. A black beast.

"Now" her eyes glow bright red as she hollers at Carter.

He immediately left her alone in her room, he didn't provoke her anger anymore. He knew better than that.

Auvergne France

Auvergne is truly lovely, my only longing is to see it in the sunlight. Several volcanoes are here, they're really quite beautiful. Charles and I can't truly have a moments peace, we know we are still in danger here. What perils could face us? We can only assume.

What will come of us? A question I often ask myself. Heaven only knows really.

Rain hits the rooftops with a resonant thud, like little bells of sorts. I find it soothing in some way. No hunting tonight, thank goodness. Not many people travel down the streets in a storm like this anyway, at this moment I am pleased we had fed the night before.

Charles stays ever strong and confident, or so he tries to act. I can see that he is worried just as much as I.

"What a life I have given you," I remark, a sad undertone to my voice.

He kisses my ear, "I would have no other. I chose this, I chose you. Why must you loath yourself for what I wanted? For what I asked of you?"

I turn to him, "I feel as if a constant battle rages within me I'm sorry I turned you, but at the same time I can't imagine life, such as it is, without you."

"Awww, so sweet, I think I might get sick" Carter laughs, "How long do you hope to evade me? You can't hide from me, you can't outrun me. You two best remember that sickly sweet moment well, for it is the last you both shall share."

Charles demeanor changes in an instant, his whole body tenses. I can tell he's preparing for battle. My worst fears had come true. I see no escape, and even if we did what good would it do us? He would only find us again. No, this time we must fight.

Who will live and who shall die?
