I'll Be Here |Joshler|

|Twenty One Pilots Faniction| Tyler Joseph wants to die. Then he meets Josh Dun. Maybe, because of him, he might think twice.

3. Friends.

A/N Trigger warning, anorexia

It didn’t take long for lunch to roll around, and when it did, Tyler felt fear begin to rise in the pit of his stomach for what seemed to be the millionth time that day. It escalated specifically high as he entered the cafeteria, he knew that if he found his friends, or, possible friends, he would have to deal with them asking questions about his eating habits. He cringed at the thought.

After a few moments of searching, his eyes finally landed upon Gerard, who he recognized by his messy fringe of black hair from afar.

“Gerard!” He called, “Gerard!”

The boy looked up from his lunch, clearly startled. He was sitting all alone at a round table.

“Hi, Tyler!”

“Hi, Gerard!”

Tyler stood by the table, awkwardly staring at Gerard.

“Are you going to sit down?” Gerard asked.

Tyler bit his lip and glanced around nervously.

“I-I promised this girl named Melanie I would sit with her today.”

“Oh.” Gerard looked down at his lunch sadly.

“No, I mean, not that I don’t want to sit with you! I mean, actually, I was really hoping you would sit with us. Like, really. She kind of scares me.”

Gerard looked up again, smiling.

“Really, Ty?”

“Yeah,” He reached up and began to run his hand through his messy, brown hair, “Could you help me find her?”

“Of course,” Gerard said, standing up and grabbing his lunch.

After a moment of searching the rather large lunchroom, Gerard finally asked, “Uh, Tyler, what does she look like?”

Tyler burst out laughing and Gerard grinned.

“She has half her hair dyed blond and the other half is black.”

“Oh!” Gerard cried, “We passed that kid ages ago!”

He tugged Tyler’s sleeve and weaved him through the crowd of tables until they reached a small rectangular one towards a window near the back. Melanie was sitting there, chewing on a bite of salad and drawing something in her sketchbook.

“Hi, Melanie!”

She looked up and smiled when she saw Tyler and Gerard seating themselves at the table across from her.

“Hi, Tyler Joseph, who’s your friend?”

“I’m Gerard.”

“Gerard who?”

“Gerard Way.”

“Nice to meet you, Gerard Way.”

They shook hands.

They then began to eat, leaving Tyler to sit there and watch them, secretly envying them for being healthy and skinny and totally able to eat food without feeling insecure.

Melanie looked up from her salad suddenly and forced Tyler to make eye contact with her.

“No lunch?”

Tyler shook his head.

“Not hungry,” He mumbled.

Gerard looked his way(no PHUN intended omg I'm so funny you guys have no idea), looking his skinny frame up and down.

“You’re welcome to have some of my food,” He offered, but Tyler shook his head, no.

“Okay, then,” Melanie said.

They continued eating and Tyler pulled out his phone, mindlessly playing color switch until he heard Melanie’s soft voice ring out once again.

“So, Tyler, see any cute boys?”

Tyler opened his mouth to say something about Josh, but stopped and looked at Melanie in astonishment.

“H-how did you know I’m gay?” He asked, beginning to feel the stalker vibe again.

Melanie chuckled. “Sometimes I can just sense it with people, you know?”

“Not really,” Tyler said, raising an eyebrow, “What, am I like, really feminine or something?”

“What? No, I’m not stereotyping or anything! I just can tell sometimes.” She glared at him quickly before returning her gaze to her salad.

“Can you read Gerard’s sexuality, too?” Tyler asked, a grin sliding onto his face.

Gerard started laughing as Melanie fixed him with a stare and started groping her chin ever-so-thoughtfully.

Gerard grinned. “That’s right. I’m a mystery!”

Tyler laughed, and as he did so he realized that he hadn’t smiled this much in ages. His old school didn’t exactly have the friendliest people in it, much less anyone that bothered to talk to him.

They’ll støp talking tø yøu after a while. They’ll start tø hate yøu. But døn’t wørry, yøu’ll still have me.

Tyler shuddered at his voice’s words and Gerard looked over at him nervously.

“Are you okay, Ty?”

“Y-yeah, I’m fine,” He replied, exhaling deeply.

Melanie and Gerard looked at him expectantly.

“I, uh, you guys are gonna think I’m crazy, but um, I have t-this voice inside my head,” Tyler stammered, automatically rubbing the back of his neck with his palm.

Melanie shook her head. “I don’t think your crazy.”

“Yeah, we all have demons,” Gerard added, patting Tyler’s arm lightly.

Tyler smiled faintly.

Melanie cleared her throat, clearly hoping to move past the subject which was clearly a very sensitive one. He would have to thank her later.

“So, Ty, you never told us if you had a crush on anyone.”

Tyler felt the butterflies again.

“W-well, there’s this one boy in my science class…”

Melanie’s eyes lit up.

“Go on!”

“H-his name is Josh. He has blue hair.”

“Josh Dun?” Melanie said rather loudly.

“I don’t know his last name.”

“The only Josh I know with blue hair is Josh Dun, and he’s sitting right over there.” She pointed behind Tyler to his left and he swiveled around, looking for the boy’s fluffy neon hair.

Sure enough, a patch of blue hair was visible amongst a pack of scrawny looking boys. None of them really looked like the stereotypical homophobic jocks, and this relieved Tyler. He had dealt with far too many of those in middle school to count.

“Blue boy,” Tyler whispered.

Melanie made a snorting sound and Tyler turned back around to face her.

“What did you just call him?”

“Oh, um, I nicknamed him that when we first met.”

Melanie let out a small squeal.

“That’s adorable! Where did you guys first meet?”

Tyler sighed, recounting the story as both Melanie and Gerard sat there eagerly, listening to it and laughing along the way.

“You have a great brother,” Gerard laughed.

“So I’ve been told,” Tyler remarked, and the other two burst into a fit of laughter.

“Well, let me tell you something about Josh Dun,” Melanie said, “He’s a total band geek. He and his friends hang out In the music room literally all the time.”

“So what you're saying is, I should join the band?”

“Yeah, but not just the band,” She pressed, “If you really want to get to know him, join the chorus, and if you don’t already have music class on your schedule, I suggest you get it there. He loves music.”

“Oh,” Tyler said when she was finished, “That’s a lot of work.”

She frowned.

“But,” Tyler continued excitedly, “I was planning on doing all that stuff anyway, because I love music, too!”
Melanie’s frown quickly transformed into a grin. “That’s perfect! And if my gaydar senses anything, it’s that Josh Dun is extremely bisexual.”

“Perfect,” Gerard said.

“Well, actually there is one flaw in that brilliant plan,” Tyler mumbled.

“Which is?” Melanie asked, looking slightly offended.

“He has a girlfriend, remember?"

“Oh, I’m so sorry.” Melanie’s face softened and Gerard gave him a small pat on the back.

“Yeah, well, she is pretty. I don't blame him,” Tyler mumbled.

The bell rang and the three all said goodbye and went their separate ways. Tyler glanced down at his schedule accordingly and found that his next class happened to be study hall/achievement hour. His mind immediately drifted to band.

He entered the music room, hands shaking. Josh and his friends were already in there, laughing and setting up music equipment. It was as if Tyler's heart stopped beating when Josh turned to look at him in the doorway, locking eyes.

"Hi, you're that kid who was staring at me in science," Josh said and Tyler felt his cheeks heat up, "And that kid who fell out of the tree at the park, right?"

Tyler nodded vigorously. He did remember.

Josh smiled. "Tyler, isn't it?"

Tyler tried his best to smile back, but it came out as more of a nervous grimace. "Y-yeah."

"So, tree kid, you thinking about joining band?" One of Josh's friends asked.

He had a large forehead, breathtaking brown eyes, and plump lips.

"Brendon, don't call him that!" Josh hissed, elbowing his friend in the stomach.

Tyler nodded, pretending not to have heard the nickname. "Yeah, band and chorus. I love music."

"Well, then you'll fit right in with us," Brendon said, flashing him a winning smile.

He then turned and called to the other boys to come meet Tyler and they all shook his hand and introduced themselves.

A blond kid with glasses called himself Patrick, a boy with shaggy hair was named Dallon, a boy with heavy eyeliner and light brown hair said he was Pete, and the last kid introduced himself as Spencer.

"N-nice to meet all of you," Tyler said.

They all nodded, returning to setting up their instruments.

"So, Tyler," The music teacher began, "What instruments do you play?"

"Um, the ukulele and the piano," He replied.

She smiled.

"Those are wonderful instruments, Tyler, but I'm afraid they don't work in the marching band. Perhaps you could learn an instrument? Brendon over there plays practically plays all of them, I'm sure he could teach you quickly. You're welcome to perform with those instruments in music class, however, and district performances." She said all of this very quickly.

"Um, yeah," Tyler mumbled, comprehending only some of what she'd said.

Brendon looked over at the sound of his name and grinned.

"Does tree boy need to learn a new instrument?"

"Brendon!" Josh yelled from the drumset in the corner.

Brendon chuckled, beckoning for Tyler to come over to where he was setting up his base guitar.

"So, what do you think you want to play?"

Tyler took a moment to look around the room and observe the many instruments that hung on the walls.

After a moment of pondering different sounds and matching them to the instruments he saw, he finally said, "T-trumpet sounds lovely."

Brendon shook his head, smiling. "Ah, the one instrument I don't know how to play."

"Oh," Tyler said, feeling panic rise inside of him, "I'll j-just choose a different i-instrument, then."

"Don't worry about it, dude, you just gotta talk to Josh about that. He's the trumpet master." He pointed to the blue haired boy who was now going to town on the drums, making a stunning rhythm drift through the room.

"Are you sure? He looks more like a drumming master," Tyler joked and received a lopsided grin from Brendon.

"He's both. Go talk him, bro."

Tyler felt a blush creep onto his face. He tried to move his legs towards the beautiful boy, but he felt rooted to the floor.

"Go on," Brendon said, gesturing towards the talented drummer.

"I-I..." He felt his blush deepening.

Brendon watched, his smile widening.

"No way. You have a crush on him, don't you?"

"Wh-what?" Tyler sputtered, turning to face Brendon with pure panic alight in his eyes.

"Dude, chill. No offense, but it's pretty obvious. Don't worry, though none of us are homophobic or anything like that. You should just know that he has a girlfriend."

"Y-yeah, I know."

Brendon glanced at Josh warily.

"Y-you won't say anything, will you?"

He turned back to Tyler, who's bottom lip was quivering violently.

"Of course not! Don't worry about it, buddy. Now go talk to him before the bell rings."

Tyler nodded, slowly walking towards the oh-so-gorgeous human before him.

Who am I kidding, he's a legit angel.

And yøu're a legit demøn.

No one asked you.

Nø øne cares.

"Hi, Tyler!" He called.

"H-hi, Josh."

"Did you need something?"

Tyler looked down at his hands, feeling awkwardness surround the situation.

"Um, I was wondering if you could teach me how to p-play the trumpet."

Josh smiled, hopping down from his stool.

"Of course I can!"

Suddenly the bell rang out and Josh's smile flipped into a frown.

"Well, I can tomorrow. Actually, scratch that, there's chorus tomorrow. I can teach you Thursday, though!"

Tyler nodded. "T-that would be great."

Josh nodded in return, grabbing his bag and making his way out the door.

"Later, Tyler!"

"Later," Tyler echoed.

I think I just made a new friend.

Nø yøu didn't! He's ønly being nice tø yøu because-

Oh, shut up.
