7. Niffler

James' p.o.v.:

The next morning, I took a shower and brushed my teeth before we all went to the Great Hall. I noticed Lily wasn't very happy so I tried to get her attention, but she was talking to Remus instead. "Are you okay?" Sirius asked me. "Yeah, I am. But I'm not sure if Lily is." I answered. "What do you mean?"  "I don't know... She's just been acting weird since Snevilly showed up yesterday. She didn't say a word to me since we've been in that carriage." Sirius thought a while before he answered. "Maybe you should give her some time. This whole situation with Snevilly must be pretty hard for her. They were very good friends after all." Sirius said and I nodded. "Yeah, she was his only friend. I wish she would just let me in, instead of shutting me out." When we sat down to the Gryffindor table, the food appeared. I noticed Lily and Remus didn't sit right next to us as they usually do. "Why is Remus doing this as well?" I said. "Stop overreacting. Remus is one of Lily's best friends as well. He's just being there for her." "So am I! But she doesn't even give me a chance! And I'm her boyfriend! He's just a... friend." Sirius stared at me. "What?" "Are you seriously jealous of Remus?" "I don't know, okay! I guess, maybe. I just don't like this..." I sighed. Professor McGonagall handed us our time tables. "Just give her some time, okay?" Sirius adviced me; I just nodded. "What do we have now?" I asked; I didn't want to look at it. "Care of Magical Creatures with Hufflepuff." Peter replied. We walked towards professor Kettleburn's classroom. Most of the Hufflepuff's were already there together with a few Gryffindor's. "Good morning everyone!" "Goodmorning professor Kettleburn." The class mumbled. She had a pretty large box with about twenty small creatures. They were long-snouted. She gently took one of them out of the box and showed it to us. "Can anybody tell me what this is?" Professor Kettleburn asked. Most of the Purebloods raised their hand; including me. "Yes, mister Potter." "That's a niffler, professor." I answered; professor Kettleburn nodded. "That is correct. And can you tell me something more about them?"  "Yes, they're quite known in the wizarding world because they are attracted to anything that shines. Therefore, they are perfect whenever you're looking for treasures." I added. "Very good, twenty points for Gryffindor." The professor said; Sirius smirked at me. "Behind me, I have different kind of food that might be suitable for Nifflers. It is up to you to find out what they like to eat. By next week, I want you to write an essay of at least 5 inches about Nifflers. Make a group of 3, take a Niffler and do what you're supposed to do." Professor Kettleburn instructed. When the class was over, I went to the Gryffindor Common Room.

"Hey, can't we just chill outside?" suggested Sirius. "You can, but I need to do something first." "Like what?" asked Sirius. "I'll tell you later, okay?" I said and left. After a while, I arrived at the Gryffindor Common Room. "Password?" The Fat Lady asked. "Acid pops." I replied. The door swung open. There were about 10 Gryffindors in the Common Room. I went to the dormitory on the fourth floor and took some parchment, my quill and the ink. Then, I went back to the Common Room and found an empty table. I know Sirius told me to give Lily some space, but I don't want to lose her either. Therfore, I decided to write her a letter.

Dear Lily

I know what you're going through isn't easy.

But I hope you know that you're not alone.

I'm here for you and I love you.

Please, don't shut me out.

I rolled up the piece of parchment and put a small piece of rope on it. I put my quill and ink back where they belonged and took the piece of parchment to the Owl Wing. My owl flew right to me when she saw me. I bind the piece of parchment to her shank. "Deliver it to Lily at noon." I said and feeded her a few snacks. Then, I went outside and joined my friends under a tree; just chilling.
