The Girl in Cell 3 (Triple Witching Hour)

Every day SABLE talks to her knight in shining armor, EREN. She says sweet words, tugging at his heart, hoping to steal it. But there is always a barrier between them - a prison cell door. EREN has struck a deal: keep her locked up and his little brother will be out of harms way.

Her cell is inescapable and her placement on death row rises fast. She aims to seduce him and have him break her out. But when truths and lies become one, can she deceive his heart without breaking her own?

27. Chapter 26 - Eren

Eren entered the prison, but his mind was elsewhere. He did not hear the salute of the guards and only barely listened to the report one of the senior guards had to make. He was told that some of the witches had appeared to accept their situation and made the best of it. The witches chatted among each other and some of the guards responded to those conversations. The mood in the prison seemed to be improving overall and the guard sounded rather pleased.

Eren mumbled a response, announced that he would make his usual patrol and dismissed the man with a word of gratitude.

He walked through the corridor, thinking of Kolin. The boy was not getting better. He had no appetite and fever continued to ravage him. At this rate he was going to die. None of the doctors were able to help him.

As he walked down the corridor, the chatter of the witches hushed, but he did not notice.

What to do?

What to do?

What to do?

He stopped before Sable’s cell. His body did so automatically—instinctively.

He sighed profoundly. He peered lazily, tiredly into her cell. All of the sudden, it didn’t matter to him if these witches were in prison or not. All he cared about was Kolin. If killing all the witches in the world was what it took to save Kolin, then he would gladly drown himself in blood and greet the gates of hell with a proud salute.

But witches could not help him.

He felt Sable’s green eyes on him, examining him, prodding him. What does she want? Normally he would have questioned her, but he could not be bothered now. He was fatigued and light headed from a lack of sleep. He wanted to sack together against the wall and rest—and that was exactly what he did.

“What’s wrong?” asked Sable.

There was a touch of real concern in her voice—or perhaps it was part of the game. Eren sniffed and smiled with tired contempt.

“What is wrong with me?”

“You look like you’ve been to hell.”

“What is wrong?”

Eren did not answer. But he felt a gnawing need worm inside him. A need to talk to someone. A need to confide in someone. He realized suddenly that besides Commanding Officer Reinhard and Kolin, he had no other friends.

He looked up at Sable.

“Heh,” he frowned. She seemed to be eager to listen. She would have to do.

Eren took a breath. “My brother Kolin sick...very sick, and the doctors don’t know what to do.”

“Sick in what way?”

Eren told her about the symptoms the boy had been experiencing in the past few days: a persistent fever, lack appetite, rapid loss in weight and strength. It was a strange disease; no one knew where it came from and its symptoms disguised it as a cold that could be cured by a good night’s rest. Doctors didn’t know what to do.

After he had told her everything he knew, she said: “Once when my sister Claire was sick like this, she wouldn’t get any better and I thought she was going to die, but my grandmother told me about a recipe that could cure it and sent me out to collect the herbs.”

“Witch medicine?” Eren spat.

“It won’t kill him,” Sable said. “But like you said, he might die like this.”

Eren thought about it for a moment. She was right; he had nothing to lose. If this was poison and it killed Kolin, then he could still punish Sable. But without the potential cure, then Kolin would die anyway.

“Fine, where can I buy this?”

“It cannot be brought, it’s a recipe only witches know.”

“Where do I find the ingredients?”

A moment of silence.

Sable said: “Show me a map of the surrounding area and I will show you.”
