The Girl in Cell 3 (Triple Witching Hour)

Every day SABLE talks to her knight in shining armor, EREN. She says sweet words, tugging at his heart, hoping to steal it. But there is always a barrier between them - a prison cell door. EREN has struck a deal: keep her locked up and his little brother will be out of harms way.

Her cell is inescapable and her placement on death row rises fast. She aims to seduce him and have him break her out. But when truths and lies become one, can she deceive his heart without breaking her own?

24. Chapter 23 - Eren

Eren knocked on Officer Reinhard’s door. He heard giggling. The sound a woman. There was the ruffling of clothes and then tense silence. And just as Eren wondered if he should knock again, Reinhard’s voice gave him permission to enter.

Eren entered and he found Officer Reinhard sitting in his chair with a woman behind him. Her beauty immediately struck him. Her ruby red eyes pierced him and made his heart beat faster. Her silky black hair partially covered her right eye, creating a sense of mystique. She smiled coquettishly. Eren took a breath; this was a woman who was aware of her beauty and knew how to use it.

“Officer Galloway, I want you to meet Zofia von Weinberg.”

Eren quickly scanned her clothes; her purple dress was made out of fine silk—an expensive material that had to be imported by foreign merchants and was taxed heavily upon entry into King’s Pride. The color itself signaled wealth, as purple dye was hard to come by and dyed silk was even more scarce. Her skin was smooth and clean; this meant that she did not have to work out in the fields—perhaps putting her in the class of a landlord or the wife of a wealthy merchant.

Whoever she was, Eren concluded that she was far more powerful than he was and he bowed appropriately. Better safe than sorry.

“My name is Eren Galloway. I serve as Senior Officer here at the barracks.”

“You are as handsome as your name suggests,” Zofia said. The corners of her eyes crinkled with seductive suggestion. She crossed the room and stopped right before Eren. She lay a hand on his chest.
“Hmm...strong muscles, a solid build. You don’t sound like you are from these parts.”

“Miss von Weinberg, if I may ask, who are you?” asked Eren. He swallowed. He didn’t know were to look. She stood so close that he could see her cleavage and breathe in her sweet womanly scent.

“Please, call me Zofia,” she said and circled him. She put her hands on his back and shoulder. “Strong indeed...”

Reinhard cleared his voice, indignation was written all over his face. Eren finally understood: his old friend Reinhard saw Zofia as his woman.

Eren did not move and said nothing. If the seas were stormy all around him, then he could only remain on his island and hope for the best.

“And tell me, what is your duty here?” she asked.

Eren shot Reinhard a disconcerted look. The fact that witches were underground was a secret—what should he tell her?

“Zofia is a representative of the Church of Valor,” Reinhard said. “She is here to inquire on our progress in regard to the captured witches.”

Eren processed this piece of information. He thought that the order to capture live witches came from the King himself. What was the Church’s role in this?

Satisfied with her examination, Zofia took a step back. Eren noticed her ruby eyes again—he did not like the look of them. She was attractive without question, but the sparkle in her red eyes made him feel suspicious. Was she a normal woman? Maybe. Maybe not. What was her position in the Church of Valor?

“I am in charge of guarding the witches,” Eren said. “I command the guards and arrange the shift schedules.”

“Good, good,” Zofia said. Something in her voice had changed. She was no longer acting the playful maiden. “And has anything abnormal occurred in the past few weeks?”

Eren peered past Zofia and saw Reinhard shake his head.

Never forget that we are your true brothers—your brothers in arms.

She probably doesn’t know about the breakout incident, Eren thought.

“There! Something in your face tells me that there is something wrong,” Zofia narrowed her eyes. “Tell me...boy, what is it?”

Eren swallowed. What shrewd insight, he thought. If she could read him so well, then she could probably detect a lie if he said that nothing was wrong. Eren wondered how he could hide the truth without lying to her.

“Ah,” he mouthed. That’s right...Sable...

“What is it?” Zofia tilted her head.

“There is nothing wrong in particular,” Eren said, “but there is a witch who seems to be intent on breaking out. Her name is Sable. But there is no need to worry. I have made it my responsibility to personally watch over her.”

“Is that the name of the witch with the blonde hair and green eyes?” Reinhard asked.

“Yes, sir.”

“Sable...hmm,” Zofia turned on her heels and when she faced Eren again, the air of a playful maiden had returned. “That is all very good, then I shall report to the Church that everything is going according to plan.”

She then walked up to Eren and poked his chest. Her face was so close to his that if he leaned forward just a little, their lips would touch. “Now you don’t want to keep this lovely Sable waiting, do you? She might break out while you are here…and then you’d have hell to pay.”

So taken was Eren by her beauty that it took him a moment to understand that this was an order for him to leave.

He took a step back, clicked his heels, saluted and left. Officer Reinhard did the same.

One voice, one mind, one army.
