The Other Side

For her, it was the fire.

For him, it was the voices.

Ella and Kade. They thought they were safe. That they were normal. They were totally unaware of one another's presence until fate had to draw them together.

In each other's eyes they are strangers. But in another reality they are more than friends.

It's just too bad they can't remember any of it.

Now they both face an impending doom from group of powerful people trying to kill them. At the same time trying to figure out what got them into this mess in first place.

But the answer may prove to be more terrifying than the question.

Who are they?

10. Chapter 5 – Voices

“Is not this whole world an illusion? And yet it fools everybody.”
-Angela Carter

“It just seemed so real,” I explained to Dr Croyd. “Like I’d been there before.”

Dr Croyd continued to take notes, grinning foolishly at himself. I wondered if it was because of something I’d said.

“Is something funny?” I asked, agitated.

He stopped writing.

“Oh no. I don’t,” he said cheerfully. “I just admire that you have a very detailed imagination.”

“You think that I’m just imagining this?”

“Well, either that or lucid dreaming. Are you sure it wasn’t a dream? Do you feel that you were conscious during these scenarios?” he asked inquisitively.

I was taken aback. “I’m pretty sure.”

“Mr Smith, can you fly?” He asked. “Or have you seen any floating slabs of rock in the sky?”

“Um…no,” I mumbled, now feeling more stupid than ever.

“Then I think it’s nothing more than an acute symptom of stress,” Dr Croyd mused.

I let my shoulders drop. Some tiny part of me had perhaps hoped that these visions I’d been having had been taken from some reality.

Maybe I’ve been playing too many computer games.

“Though, just to make sure. How about we meet up the same time next week, hmm?” he asked.

I got up, and slouched, making my way out of his room.

“Sure. Same time.” I said.
