Forever Young

In a world where you do not age after the age of 19 until you meet your soulmate, Mettaton wants to live forever. How must he do that? By killing his one true love.
Yes, @YaPrtyMuch and I are writing stories with the same plot. We have agreed to do this and are not copying one another.

4. Confession

So in this story sans is papyrus' roomate instead of his brother. idk why just go with it.

Papyrus woke to the sound of birds chirping outside his window. It took him a moment as he blinked at the bright light embracing him through the window to remember the events of the night before. He had found his soulmate, who just so happened to be a rather despised man amongst many, including his best friend.

The smell of pancakes wafted into his room from the kitchen, his roommate, Sans, must have been making breakfast. He sighed at the thought of having to tell him, as well, for he knew about the rumors, too. He felt as though he should be annoyed with who his soulmate happened to be, but he wasn't. He knew deep down that he was simply misunderstood, he just needed someone to love him. And Papyrus was willing to do that.

He stood and stretched, making his way into the kitchen, where the pleasant smell grew stronger.

"Morning," Sans said tiredly, handing him a plate of pancakes.

He took them delightedly and sat at the counter, where Sans joined him not long after.

"Is there something you want to tell me, Paps?"

Papyrus looked up at him, startled.

"I- Are you-"

"You had that look on your face," Sans explained, "And yes, I am, according to my father, slightly psychic."

"Damn right, you're psychic. I've got to tell you something-I'm afraid you're not going to like it very much."

Sans shook his head, leaning back in his chair.

"What, did you not pay rent this month?"

"Worse than that, my friend."

"You let the houseplants die?"

"I would never."

"Then, what'd you do?"

Papyrus took a deep breath, rubbing his thumb across his knuckles nervously.

"I, um, met my s-soulmate yesterday."

Sans shot straight up in his chair.

"Are you serious? That's awesome, man. She hot?"

"Um, actually, he's a guy."

"Oh, bro," Sans said with a look of sympathy, "It doesn't matter to me. I just didn't know. I'm so glad you told me."

He laughed, "You shouldn't have been so nervous."

"W-Well, that's not it."

Sans cocked his head to the side.

"What is it, then?"

"Well, he's, um, that one guy..."

"That... one guy?"

"Um, t-the 'psycho' Undyne always complains about..."

Sans' eyes narrowed slightly.

"Are you pulling my leg?"

"N-No. I wasn't sure how to tell you..." He looked down at his lap.

"Hey," Sans said, placing a hand on his shoulder, "It's not like you had a choice."

"Well, he's my soulmate.  Even if I did have a choice, I would have ended up with him, anyway."

Sans shrugged. "It is what it is, you can't help what you can't help. I'm not mad at you, I could never be."

"Thanks, Sans, I'm not sure what I would do without you."

"Me too, bro," He said with a nod, "But Undyne... That's a different story."

Papyrus approached Undyne's house slowly, making his way up the steps hesitantly. He had gone over what he was going to say numerous times in his head, but now he had forgotten everything. Before he could even knock on the door, however, Undyne opened it and hurried him inside.

"Undyne? What's the rush?"

She slammed the door and glanced out the window quickly.

"It's that psycho, I saw him skulking around town as though he was looking for someone. It's getting dangerous for you to come out here, even in the daytime."

"About that," Papyrus said with a sigh, taking a seat on her leather couch, "I've got something to tell you."

She gave him a quizzical look and sat down across from him.

"Go on, if it's got anything to do with that guy, I need to hear it."

"Well, since you're so interested, I ran into him late last night, and we had a chat."

Undyne's eyes widened in surprise.

"Papyrus, what the hell? I can't believe you didn't-"

"And that's not all," He interrupted, "We happen to be soulmates."

Undyne looked as though she might explode.

"Are you kidding me right now?" She said through gritted teeth.

"No, and I know you might be mad, but I love him, or at least, I will love him, we haven't had the chance to-"

Undyne threw her arms around him and let out a horrible sob.

"The r-rumors, he-oh god, I'm afraid he'll kill you," She whispered into his shoulder.

"Undyne," He said softly, "Those are just rumors."

"I know that," She said hastily, wiping away a stray tear, which was still as shocking as ever, "And I'm not going to be mad at you, you can't help this, but I'm so scared I'll lose you... like Alphys."

Papyrus felt his heart drop at this and he pulled Undyne closer.

"I won't let that happen. I'll be safe, I promise."

Undyne sniffled, burying her face deeper into his shoulder.

"I sure hope so."
