"Nobody's Child" Cassie is an eleven year old girl who has been in a children's home since she was four years old. Very bright, Cassie excels in most subjects and can play Brahms and Mozart on the piano at the age of only six. Because of her age nobody wants to adopt her. Mrs Cummings the manager of Auton House is a wicked woman who treats Cassie and the rest in her charge badly and beats her with regularity. One day she is sent to clean out the toilet and bathroom and Mrs Cummings comes along to inspect them. Running a white glove over everything and looking for dirt. When she doesn't find any she then reaches up on the door - Cassie is only three feet six inches tall and was unable to reach up to the top of the door and Mrs Cummings sets about her with a cane. She beats her so badly that Cassie runs at her forcing her back where she hits her head on a wash basin. Cassie in her panic rushes out and runs away.- It is there that she meets Don a ex docker who takes pity on the girl - rea

thought about knocking on Linda’s door but then thought better of it. She would come around in her own time.

The light was still on in Sylvia Crowe’s house; know doubt she would be watching him he thought. He cleaned up after the dog and placed the bag into the bin before walking back home. “Where was Cassie now he asked Fart who whimpered at the sound of her name.’

“You miss her too don’t you boy said Don as he placed the key in the door and let himself in.

Tim Stanton and Beefy pulled up outside of Auton House in Newcastle. Mrs Martha Cummings was expecting them and as they walked into the old building with parquet polished flooring and an old oak staircase.

“The children are all at their lesson’s Mr Stanton so we will not disturb them. I will show you around the home if you would like to follow me. Walking up to the first floor they were shown the classrooms and extensive library.

“This is our kitchen; Mrs Trot would you kindly show these gentlemen what is on the menu today.

“There’s a nice beef stew and some mashed potatoes and vegetables for lunch.’

And for desert there’s rice pudding.’

“I hope that you will stay for lunch detective then you will see the children in our care and how they are well taken care of.

“That is too kind Mrs Cummings; thank you said Beefy who was always looking to feed that big frame of his. Next they were led to the children’s dormitory’s there was twelve beds head to toe all the sheets looked brand new as well as the pillows and cushions. Tim made a mental note.’

“Where are the children’s playing areas?’

Well we had a large playground at the back where the children can play football and the girls have skipping ropes. For the younger members here we have a toy room.

Mrs Cummings showed them the toy room where there was a rocking horse, Building bricks and a dolls house. There was also a trike in the corner.’

“Very nice.’

The bathroom is down here as well as the toilets.

“Yes, I would like to see that?

Mrs Cummings led them to the bathroom and toilet area.

“So where were you when the girl attacked you?’

 “I was standing here.

“And where was the girl?

“She was coming out of the toilet.’

“Did you say anything to her?’

“I told her to hurry along as she was late for a lesson.’

“What did she say?’

“She told me to shut my big fat mouth.’

“Then what did you do?’

“I told her that she shouldn’t speak to her superiors in this manner.’

“Then what happened, did you hit the girl?’

“No I did not; it was then when she charged at me and knocked me down.

“So you say she ran at you from back here.’
