2. Chapter Two

"Welcome back home, baby." My mum smiled as she brought my bags into my old room. Everything was in the exact place I left it nine years ago. Posters on the wall, pillows on the floor, journal on the desk, books open. Quite weird if you ask me.

Unfortunately, with a baby it's extremely hard to keep up with the bills and the rent on my apartment. Although I do have money, I don't have enough to pay for the bills and pay for my baby. And this was my last chance; move back in with my parents. I may be a savior, but I can't be a savior with money.

All the money that was given to me from James, I didn't keep. I didn't want it. So, instead of using it or putting it into the bank, I handed it over to the police so they could find something to do with it. Knowing it's drug money, I didn't want it for my baby. Hell. No.

"So, we made space in the spare room for you to use as a nursery. Your dad is willing and to take Ben's truck to pick up anything for the baby tonight or tomorrow." Ben. I haven't seen or heard about him in so long, since I was a teenager at least. Ben is Luke's oldest brother and one of my closest friends. I've always wanted an older brother, and Ben fit the description.

"Thank you so much, Mum. I know it's hard to bring me back into the house, but I really appreciate it."

"Don't be apologizing, baby. You're my daughter and I want you safe and well. As well as my little grand baby. And anyways, I got all my kids here, what's better than that?"

"Having Leo move out and find a girlfriend?" My dearest little twin brother has never moved out of the house. He didn't go to college, didn't find himself a nice girl, didn't even go out on a date. He's what Americans call a couch potato. At least I moved out, found a guy, went to college and I even had a baby. All at twenty eight years old.

"He'll find someone. You know, after Hailey it was extremely hard for him to date again." Unfortunately, my old best friend, Hailey and Leo broke up two years into their relationship. She didn't like that fact that he was training to become someone like my dad. She didn't accept the life he was living in. Also, she lived all the way in Ireland and she got, well, lonely. Leo was fully committed to their relationship, but Hailey, unfortunately, wasn't. And I guess ever since then, he hasn't dated anyone since.

"Mum, do you think Ryan will be like me?"

"What do you mean?"

"Like, a savior. Have this... thing like I have?"

"Usually the first born son or daughter have it."

"Then why did it skip Jack and Ben?"

"Liz was precise with how they did things. Andrew went against the rules but he knew his way around them and it skipped Ben and Jack."

"And how about Luke? Why did he get it?"

"We talked about this. Liz couldn't have any other children and they wanted another one. And because I was fully capable of having a baby, they chose me. And since Andrew and I were both saviors, like you and Luke, he was the most affected by it. Which explains why you and Luke are nine months apart and born on the same birthday. Just different year."

"So, Ryan will have this?"

"Most likely. It's very rare for it to skip generations, unless you know your way around the rules."

"I don't want him to have this, mum. I want him to be normal."

"He will be normal. We won't be able to find out until he's older and until then, he'll live a normal life, just like you did. I made sure you lived a normal life. I didn't want you to be so young when you found out."

"How'd you know?"

"Your father knew where we were, where we were hiding and every time when you were younger, when you would get headaches, he would let me know. Either by letter or by, something. And each time he would send one, I would always send it back saying to wait and to give you medicine. I wanted you normal as possible. And I feared that if you were to find out too soon, all that normalcy would be gone."

"So that's what I have to do with Ryan?"

"Minus going away. Things have changed since my time, Violet. Less rules, less restrictions. But bigger consequences. Jesus, if the council find out about Ryan we'll all be in trouble,"

"Council? What council?"

"The people who decided to send Andrew and I away. Also known as your Uncle. My brother."

"Wait, what?"

"Your Uncle Xander. My mum would call him the devil when she was still alive. He was supposed to be a trainer like what your dad does but he was turned into a council member because of his last name. First born son of a Damon, it was bound to happen. They turned him against us and he made things hard for me and your father. But because I was pregnant with his niece and nephew; you and Leo, he let me keep you guys until you were born. After that... I would have to leave."

"Do you think that'll happen to Ryan?"

"I think it could happen, yes. But because he has the last name of Carson, they won't come after him. And because you have a hyphenated last name, Carson comes first. They won't come after you either."

"And if they do?"

"You do what a savior does."

"Protect myself,"

"No, baby. You protect Ryan and you protect him with every ounce of might you have. You're gonna fall down, but you gotta get up."
