17. Chapter Seventeen

"You're not doing it right," I laughed.

"Well, show me how to do it," Luke smiled as he struggled with the car seat even more. I rolled my eyes and put my hands in the car along with Luke's.

"Loop the seat belt in the car seat so it's secured, then buckle the belt and lock it," Luke followed the instructions and smiled. "There you go,"

"Now, press the lock button on the car seat and make sure it's tight. It shouldn't swerve when we drive," he nodded and did as he was told.

"Now what?"

"Now, put the seat in the holder," I said. He reached down to the ground in the garage and picked up Ryan in his seat. He set the seat up in the holder and pulled the canopy over the top, covering Ryan's face.

"There you go, you did it," I smiled.

"Cute, now can we go shopping?" Chloe asked, getting in the front seat. I huffed and walked around the car to the other side. Why do I always get the backseat.

"Oh how the tables turned," Luke whispered.

"Not funny,"

"A little funny," I shook my head and looked to Ryan who kicked his feet. The more and more Ryan grows, the more he looks like James and I don't like it at all. I hate the fact that he looks like James and I hate the fact that I was stupid enough to think about settling down with him.

"You were?"

I sighed, "I was thinking about it,"

"Okay, I really hate this, you know? Not being able to hear what's going on," Chloe said. "Makes me want to hear it too,"

"You know, if you're hearing voices, there's medication for that,"

"Violet," Luke warned.

"You know, there's a place for misfits and children without fathers, you should check it out," this car needs to pull over before I explode. And literally explode. Luke pulled over on the side of the road and stopped the car.

I got out of the car and ran around to the other side. "Get out of the car,"

"No," Chloe said.

"Get your ass out of the car." Luke nodded to Chloe and she willingly got out.

"You can talk about me, you can talk about how screwed up I am. Or about how I'm ruining your relationship with Luke. But you bring my son into your sick games, I fight back. And that is something you don't want."

"Do you expect me to be afraid of you? Because if you remember, I knew you when you were just starting out. When you were weak and nothing. When you only depended on Luke,"

"You really want to get to me, don't you? You want to get under my skin. Don't forget, Chloe, I've been through worse than you've ever experienced,"

"No, getting under your skin would be me bragging about how I have Luke. Getting to you would be me saying how your son doesn't have a father and he barely has a stable mother. In and out of the hospital, in and out of homes. Everything you never wanted to become,"

"You bitch," I whispered as I balled my hands to make a fist at my sides. Chloe looked behind me as a sign started to move from the bolts.

"Stop, Violet, stop!" Luke yelled, holding me back.

"Get the hell out of my way,"

"Don't fall down, remember?"

"That doesn't go for this." I said. "She," I pointed to Chloe, "doesn't get to say all of that to me without consequences," I said, fresh tears coating my cheeks. Anger. Pure anger.

"There you go again with depending on my boyfriend,"

"That's it!" I charged myself at Chloe, only to be pushed back by Luke.

"Get in the car," he said. I looked over to Chloe blowing hard breaths out of my mouth. "Violet, car, now!" I released my wrist from his grasp and sat in the front seat of the car and rolled the window down.

"Do you have a death wish?!" Luke yelled at Chloe.

"She needs to realize she can't speak to me that way. She needs to realize you are my boyfriend and not hers,"

"You think you can speak to me that way?! You need medical help!" I yelled, opening the door.

"Stay in the damn car, Violet!" Luke yelled.

"Chlo, you can't speak to her that way either. Whether you like it or not-"

"She comes first. I get it. But when am I going to come first? Or, will I ever come first?" No, you will never come first, you bitch.

"You aren't helping," Luke said, turning to me.

"Maybe she should go away for a while again. Just like last time,"

"You kidnapped me last time!" Chloe yelled.

"Violet, car, now," Luke said. I huffed and slammed the car door closed, again.

"Chloe, if you can't accept the fact that Violet will come first to me, then maybe you should go home." Luke said.

"If I do that, she'll have more enemies after her. She won't only have the council but she'll have my father,"

"Right, your father, the one who you told us was like us, but it turned out he was a drunk and a drug addict that was seeing things?" Ah, Luke isn't happy.

"No, I'm not happy, Violet. So, close the window," I groaned and closed the window as my phone blasted from the back seat.

"This is Violet," I answered.

"Would you accept this call from the Sydney County jail?" The automatic voice asked. "Press pound for yes and one for no. If you accept, you will be paying a fine of one dollar," I reached down and pressed the pound sign. "Redirecting,"

"Violet," I held the phone tighter in my hand. "Violet, please, tell me you're there,"

"Why did you call me?"

"I want to see him, Vio. Please, let me see him,"

"Go to hell, James,"

"I'm already here. I have visiting times on Wednesday. Can you please come here?"

"Screw you."

"Let me see my god damn son for the first time! Let me hold him!"

I sighed and gave in, "what time?"

"Any time. You show up, they let me come to you."

I nodded, "after this, you never call or reach out to me. And after this, you'll never see him again,"

"I just want to see him,"
