15. Chapter Fifteen

"Luke, you can't ignore me forever," I said as I followed Luke down the hallway.

"Yes, I can. Now stop following me,"

"Why are you being such a child?"

"Being a child?! No, do you know what's childish? You throwing a damn T.V at my girlfriend!"

"I was protecting myself!"

"You could've killed her! Whether you like it or not, Chloe and I are engaged, Violet! You need to get that through your mind!"

"She was going to kill me, Luke! I wasn't taking any chances!"

"She wasn't going to kill you! It was all in your mind!"

"No, it wasn't!"

"You love me, I understand that. But I don't love you. Whatever you're holding against Chloe, against me, you need to drop it. I. Don't. Love. You. Get that through your thick skull!"

I nodded and stepped away from him, hurt taking over my body. "I always go for the assholes, don't I?"

"Where's Luke, he needs to be here too," I shook my head.

"Luke's not coming. It's just me. Tell me what I'm doing," my dad set up the map on the counter and grabbed a sharpie marker. He drew pinpoints on the map and traced the route for me to take. Sewers. I hate the sewers.

"Oh, no. You are not going on a mission," mum said, putting the ham on the counter on top of the map.

"I have to,"

"You just got out of the hospital. You are not healed,"

"I'll take my chances," I replied, zipping my suit up. I pulled my hair back into a ponytail and picked Ryan off the floor. "I love you baby," I whispered, kissing his forehead.

"If I don't make it back, tell Luke there's a book under my mattress in my room here,"

"What do you mean if you don't make it back?" Mum asked, walking to me.

"It's a rather... dangerous mission," Dad informed.

"Dangerous how?"

"The people who attacked in the hospital, there's more. Nick did research on the guy's blood and said he's from some kind of gang that hunt people like you."

"No, you are not going to them. Not with help and definitely not alone,"

"Dad is guiding me, mum. He's going to be with me the whole time. Uncle Nick gave me some cool gadgets too,"

"Great, just great. I get to depend on your brother," mum said, putting her hand to her forehead. I shook my head and ran out the door as fast as I could. If I miss this window, I'll be dead within the next couple hours. Granted, I could be dead in a couple of hours anyway, but I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't.

"Talk to me, Dad," I said as I approached our small town.

"Make a left, there should be a sewer over there somewhere. It should be on the right hand side," I nodded and followed the directions which he gave me. Seriously, why do people hide out in sewers?

"Here's a couple ways to go, Dad,"

"Right, go right," I nodded and ran down the gross tunnel. Squeals from rats sounded all around me, grossing me out. But the thing with this job, you can't pay attention to that stuff. Just like dory once said, just keep swimming.

"This is a lot nicer than I expected for hunters," I whispered, looking at the boarded up cots and lights.

"What do you see?" Dad asked.

"Beds and lights. There's people have families, Dad." I said, looking around. A picture of a man and a little boy hung on the wall above a cot, the little boy smiling widely as he held a fish in his hand. I smiled but that smile disappeared as a new picture came into view at the cot next to it.

"You've got to be kidding me," I whispered, picking up the picture.

"What? What is it?"

"Welcome to my home, Violet," I dropped the picture on the bed and turned to the voice I wanted so hard to forget. "Miss me?"

"I see you've found me. And I also saw you killed one of my friends. That hurt, Violet. Hurt badly,"

"Yeah, well, that's what happens when you send an imbecile after me. What's next? Kidnap me again? Torture me?"

"Oh, no, I'm not that person anymore. Tell me, how's James? Heard he's in prison,"

"Haven't spoken to him in months,"

"Heard he misses his baby. You know, I had no clue he had a kid until I put the pieces together. Until I actually saw you out one day with a little baby in the shopping cart. He looks so much like James, Vio. Must be hard to look at him knowing his father is a deadbeat,"

"Nobody calls me that anymore,"

"How is the little bugger? Growing good, I hope? What's his name again? Ryan, is it?"

"How are you getting this information?"

"Council members. A particular member. Maybe you know him, Xander Damon. He's your uncle, right? You put way too much trust into people these days, Vi. It's such a shame," she has me there.

"What? No more tazers? No more weapons? No more beating me up?"

"No, you see, I'm here to warn you,"

"Warn me my ass,"

"The council, Violet. They want you. They want you to go away for a long time. They looked over what you said about Luke and about Ryan. They aren't taking it into consideration. They want to lock you up for breaking their rules. And I'm simply here to warn you. Because if you don't give yourself up in the next thirty days, they're sending me after you. They're sending me and Xander after you. And he isn't stopping for anything. And neither am I." She turned around and walked out of the tunnel, making her presence disappear from everything. From me.

"I need Luke. And I need him now," I said, opening the door to Luke's house.

"He's upstairs with Chloe," Mrs. Hemmings replied, closing the door behind me.

"I don't care who the hell he's with,"

"Why are you wearing your suit?"

"I went on a mission,"

"Your mum allowed that," I shook my head and ran up the stairs.

"Luke, we need to talk. And we need to talk now," I said, opening his bedroom door.

"Don't you knock, what the hell?!" Luke yelled, covering himself up.

"I'm ignoring you, remember. I need my space from you," he said.

"Luke l-"

"God, you never listen to me,"

"Luke! Would you shut up for one damn second and let me talk!"

"Why should I? Why should I let you talk after you almost killed Chloe?"

"I'm in trouble, Luke. Big. Trouble,"

"What kind of trouble? And why are you shaking? You never shake," I looked down to my hands and took a deep breath. "Can you give us a minute?" He asked, looking down to Chloe. She nodded and walked out of the room with no questions asked.

"What kind of trouble?" He asked again, standing up.

"She's back, Luke. She's. back."

"Lily," I whispered.

"What? That's impossible. She's been off the grid for years,"

"There's more," he tugged on his hair in the back of his head. "The council they don't like me. They don't like my story. They're angry, Luke. Very. Angry. Lily warned me. Luke... I only have thirty days until I'm locked away,"
