Insomnia | Joshler

Josh's college roommate has insomnia.
He's also pretty freaking hot.

14. Walking

The week went by in a flash. Classes, new friends, and sleeping with the comfort of Josh's body pressed against his own.

Blurry had been much quieter.

Now the two men were walking a trail Brendon had told them about earlier, something about it being a rather romantic place. When Josh had offered to go, Tyler had first awkwardly declined for this very reason, but Josh just gave his a lopsided grin and convinced him with a simple, "Come on."

Brendon had been right about the place. The trees made a roof-like structure of leaves over them, which were a radiant red-orange. The path was littered with them, too, but they weren't wet or soggy, they were crunchy; Tyler would giggle every time Josh went out of his way to step on one, and this would make him beam.

"You're silly."

"Not sillier than you."

"Oh yeah?"

"Yeah. I saw you when that turkey came out in front of the path. You started screaming louder than it did."

Tyler crossed his arms over his chest.

"Are you calling my fears silly?"

"Meanie," Tyler said, pushing him playfully.

He laughed, mocha eyes bright.

They walked in a peaceful silence for a minute, a light breeze blowing against them.

"Brendon was right about this place," Josh observed.

"That it's romantic?"

Josh slowed to stop and turned to look at Tyler.

They stared at each other for a brief moment before Tyler looked down at his feet, trying his very best to conceal the blush that was now dusting his cheeks.

"You know, now that you're sleeping with me, Blurry hasn't been talking as much."

"That's good to hear."

Tyler nodded.

"I just wanted to thank you... I don't know what I'm going to do without you after college."

Josh bit his lip.

"Well, I'm sure you'll find a man who cares a lot about you and makes you feel so happy that Blurry finally shuts up."

"I'm not so sure. You're the only person that's ever bothered to put up with me, especially for so long. And besides, taking Blurry away is what you do best."

Josh inhaled sharply.

"What... what are you saying, Tyler?"

Tyler looked up into his eyes.

"I'm saying that I want to take your demons away, one day, Josh. I want to be there for you. Because I like you. A lot."

Josh was silent, mouth agape.

Tyler flushed red, realizing what he had just confessed to. Before he knew what he was doing, he was sprinting back the way they had come, tears rolling down his freckled cheeks.
