A Court of Thorns and Roses

Feyre is a huntress. She thinks nothing of slaughtering a wolf to capture it's prey. But, like all mortals, she fears what lingers mercilessly beyond the forest. And she will learn that taking the life or a magical creature comes at a high price... Imprisoned in an enchanted court in her enemy's kingdom, Feyre is free to roam but forbidden to escape. Her captor's body bears the scars of fighting, and his face is always masked - but his piercing stare draws her ever closer. As Feyre's feelings for Tamlin begin to burn through every warning she's been told about his kind, an ancient, wicked shadow grows. Feyre must find a way to break a spell, or lose her heart forever...

5. Scene 5 - Dinner With The Enemy

TAMLIN – You should eat something.

FEYRE – Who are you?

TAMLIN – Sit. Eat. (growling) Unless you'd rather faint?

FEYRE – It's not safe for humans.

TAMLIN – (laughing) The food is fine for you to eat, human.

TAMLIN – Leave if you want. I'm not your jailer. The gates are open – you can live anywhere in

TAMLIN – (dishing himself food) Fine.

(LUCIEN walks in, striding over to where TAMLIN is sitting)

LUCIEN – Well?

TAMLIN – Well, what?

LUCIEN – Is Andras dead, then?

(TAMLIN nods slowly)

TAMLIN – I'm sorry.

TAMLIN – An ash arrow. The Treaty's summons led me to the mortal. I gave her safe haven.

LUCIEN – A girl… a mortal girl actually killed Andras. And the summons found the girl responsible.

(TAMLIN laughs bitterly)

TAMLIN – The Treaty's magic brought me right to her doorstep.

(LUCIEN whirls around to look at FEYRE)

LUCIEN – You're joking. That scrawny thing brought down Andras with a single ash arrow?

TAMLIN – She admitted to it. She didn't try to deny it.

LUCIEN – Well, now that we're stuck with that, thanks to your useless mercy, and you've ruined –

(FEYRE takes a step towards LUCIEN)

LUCIEN – Did you enjoy killing my friend, human? Did you hesitate, or was the hatred in your heart riding you too hard to consider sparing him? It must have been so satisfying for a small, mortal thing like you to be able to take him down. (pause) Anyway, perhaps there's a way to –

TAMLIN – (warningly) Lucien. Behave.

LUCIEN – My apologies, lady. I'm Lucien. Courtier and emissary. Your eyes are like stars, and your hair like burnished gold.

TAMLIN – Her name is Feyre. (to FEYRE) Alis will show you to your room.

(ALIS walks in. FEYRE walks off stage right with ALIS)

LUCIEN – Something to feast your eyes on?

TAMLIN – Shut up, Lucien.

LUCIEN – Why, Tamlin, you are touchy, aren't you?

TAMLIN – You're lucky that your head is still atop your neck. If you don't shut up soon, you may find that it is unable to remain that way.
