Grasping the Sky

Humans are destined to die someday, to be inanimate and lifeless where we have no experience whatsoever with these type of topics. Before any of these, what would we like to do? Simply wait our days of departing? Or choose to fully enjoy our life? Humans are born with natural talents that helps and sometimes guarantee survival based on their usefulness. However, this tale is about those who do not have them.

4. "Useless" hope

"This simply won't do," I concluded. I was trying for a technique that involved using the flare ore that I attached in my spear. The flare ore did work, but the technique that involved using it for any other use than stabbing. However, even with the ore technology that I learned previously from the expert, I couldn't help but feel hopeless, none of my plans are working when it comes to defending against the Artificial. I also thought about using electric ore to stun the enemy, but it is one of the rarest ones out there and I happen to not have any decent electric canceling metal for the handle. "Hey, N, did you finish your training?" said H. H is one of the children who came from the Upper World, but he has no connection with the officials, in fact, he was one of the criminals that rebelled against the Upper World society. Even the Upper World had its own problems there, but none which were worse than our own. We had to worry about dying rather than fighting for something called freedom. Sure, we do have freedom, but is it really freedom? We have to live here 24/7 with the fear of death and we couldn't worry more about anyone else's life. In summary, we became suspicious toward another, and trusting no longer became option. At best, we could only have something like companions that work for the same goal, which were considered like friendship around here. The furniture around here is surprisingly ancient, and culture rich in general, I even found a book explaining briefly about ancient martial art and workmanship. After making sure everyone is alright, though I say everyone, it is only three of us, two which I usually say because I wanted to make sure that H isn't being targeted as he is our only source of food and such necessaries. I walked mindlessly from building to building, and I caught the movement of something. I began to worry, but I kept calm even at times like this. "Panicking will make it worse," I thought. Without any warning, pack of Silver Wolves dashed at my direction. I grasped a knife in my belt, but Silver Wolf's needles pierced my palms before I could reach for it. "Tch," I let a sound and every one of those wolves began to reveal their fangs, this meant that it recognized that I am at a level where they can simply hunt me. I could have run to the place where these two people were, but I decided not to, even in a hell that this place is, I wanted to stay as humane as possible.
