Grasping the Sky

Humans are destined to die someday, to be inanimate and lifeless where we have no experience whatsoever with these type of topics. Before any of these, what would we like to do? Simply wait our days of departing? Or choose to fully enjoy our life? Humans are born with natural talents that helps and sometimes guarantee survival based on their usefulness. However, this tale is about those who do not have them.

1. "Useless" ones

"How many years do we have to spend our lives here?" said the boy A. "Quit whining, there is no use for us in society nowadays, we are simply a flesh in shape of a human," replied the lifeless man D. I do not have trouble remembering people's names, it is just that we simply do not have a name in this place. The very concept of individuality doesn't exist here. We only recently found a way to refer to others by these twenty six letters named alphabets without using other's facial features or any other distinctive features. We live in very closed society, we have limited amount of cloths, food, and other basic needs. It is more like that we are locked here rather than anything else. That brings others to question. How do I gain these standards of living from the upper society? Simple. I used to live there. until I was six, when I was thrown away because of my lack of talent. I did possess a talent, but it wasn't necessary for this world. Humans in these days were born with talents and there are ten different stages of them that makes that truly different from one another. We stopped having meaningless wars, because these caused too much causalities and now humans hand pick one candidate from the specific group who wishes to gain control or earn greater advantages politically. With millions of lives saved from lack of the need of participating the war, physical abilities were no longer necessary, but we still had to be healthy, but it meant that heavily developed muscles were not considered as important aspect of life. Also, we began to rely on A.I named Ark. Ark was created ten years ago and it has capacity to improve itself faster than the Moore's law. This had created era where humans no longer needed to used our intelligence to improve our technology. What had this done to us? Before looking carefully at what happened to people in this underground society, it is important for me to explain the current standard of this world. Humans are now able to use supernatural forces and these were scientifically verified to be plausible. We no longer had to die from cancer and some even had near immortality. How does this work? We apparently unlock our potential using various equipment from the lab and it magically happens. This method is currently widely used, though it was only publicly announced about five years ago. Any ten year old kid should have been overly excited by this right? No. For us the drop outs, these things were nothing more than a useless talk.
