The School Phantom

Emma Bloodworth is in Choir as well as Theater and is trying out for Christine in 'The Phantom of the Opera' play. Eric Stel is a very gaurded and mysterious boy haunted by his past and finds comfort in her voice. He plans to help her get her part as well as his own.

3. It's Time To Say Goodbye

I sat in the audience, waiting for Jenna Veils to sing Christina, my favorite part, but only got whispers and groups of rumors flying around.

"I heard she's moving, she's absolutely torn up about it." What?

"Someone has to sing Christina now that she'll be gone." This is my chance!

"Shush! She's on the stage, probably singing anyway." I looked up to see her blonde curly hair framing her angelic face. She had a light dash of freckles but that only enhanced her clear smooth skin the guys fawned over. Make's her cute as they say.

Standing perfectly still in the middle of the stage, she wore a white dress. She really looks like an angel, I thought as she begun to sing, "Think of me, think of me fondly; when we've said goodbye. Remember me, once in a while; please promise me you'll try." I could hear the falter in her voice. She sounds so sad. "When you find, that once again you long; to take your heart back and be free, if you ever find a moment, spare a thought for.. me....." She drifted off softly as I leaned forward in my seat to just barely hear the rest of the song. A choked cough came from her lips before her face contorted into a sorrowful face filled with despair as well. Running from the stage, her dress floated behind her as Ms. Yeria chased after quickly.

"Can you believe what happened?! Oh my god! She choked and she didn't even finish!" Wait but-

"I wonder if I could be Christine now, that would be bomb!" A few girls giggled, still gossiping. I glared at them in disgusted amazement but ran up to the stage, hearing soft cries from the back. Quickly ascending the steps, Randal came to my side.

"Jenna wants to see you," He said softly as he moved a curtain to the side revealing a heartbroken, sniffling girl. She looked up, wiping away her tears and cleared her throat, "Hello Emma." Glancing at Randall, he nudged me forward before closing the curtain. "I heard from Ms.Yeria that you wanted to be my back up." Her blue eyes stared into my green ones, they're so blue and light.

"Yes I did," I looked down, fiddling with my hands before curling them into fists. I feel so selfish. She worked so hard and just because she's moving, she can't sing this part, this very important role. "But I- It's okay. You can have it. I've seen you around a couple of times, heard you as well. You're honestly better than me. I'm not in chorus but, I wish I could have sung Christine's song."

She stood and dusted off her dress. Her mascara was smudged and running terribly, making her look like a horror girl; though her light blue eyes held little hope that she'd still be here to sing it. "It seems we've been together forever, and it seemed that we might never have to part; but now the time has come to say farewell to you my friends, the time has come to make a brand new start" She sung softly before giving me a sad smile.

"We travelled down this long road together. We had some ups and downs along the way, but that has all prepared us for what is now in store; the future is a road that starts today." I took her hand and led her out from behind the curtain, walking as I sung along with her. She's gonna make me cry.

"It's time to go, it's time to say goodbye, I really thought that this might never end; but maybe someday if we're lucky, our paths will cross again. Until that day we'll say farewell my friends." We sang in a duet before some others joined in. Jenna giggled before wiping away a tear. Multiple of the cast members ran over to hug and surround her with their feelings of her departure. Stepping away before I could get caught in the feelings train wreck, Randal pulled me to his side before looking at me. I looked up into his caramel brown eyes before smiling, wiping away an escaped tear.

"I want to thank you for taking my place, I wouldn't want anyone else to have it." Jenna held my hand tightly before we hugged. I smiled and nodded, speechless as well as not knowing what to say to her. Ms.Yeria wrote Jenna a pass before she went to the bathroom, beckoning me to the front of the stage. Is it always so hot up here?

"Are you ready Emma?" She looked up at me with a small smile. I nodded as I noticed the auditorium door opened and closed quietly, only showing the outside light from the insulated room. Who is that? She soon started playing the opening song, 'Think of Me'.

I took a breath, breathing in all that I could before singing clearly. "Think of me, think of me fondly, when we've said good bye. Remember me, once in a while; please promise me you'll try. When you find, that once again you long, to take your heart back and be free; if you ever find a moment, spare a thought for me." I sang comfortably before a small clapping session braced my ears. They actually like it? Wow I-I did it!

"You must change, I'll order my carriage; two minutes, lotte -No, Raoul wait!" I watched as Randal walked off the left of the stage, passing through the door prop. Plopping down on a chair as I huffed. Now it's Brian's turn to sing and he's nothing like the guy I heard at least a week ago. The loud music soon started to play, I waited to hear Brian's voice but instead a booming one sounded throughout the auditorium, startling me. "Insolent boy! This slave of fashion, basking in your glory. Ignorant fool! This brave young suitor, sharing in my triumph! I looked to my right seeing Brian standing there bewildered. That wasn't him, it can't be. It's him! It's the phantom!

My chest swelled, filling up with air as I answered; standing from my chair. Its just as that one night when I first heard his voice, "Angel I hear you; speak, I listen. Stay by my side, guide me. Angel my soul, was weak, forgive me. Enter at last, Master." I looked around trying to find the voice. The voice that made my chest swell with the aching desire to sing. The voice that sensually caressed my ears and heart.

"Flattering child you shall know me, see why in shadow I hide." I turned to my right, facing the giant two-sided mirror. I sucked in a startled breath. He stood there. Tall and dark and cloaked in black except for the white mask that covered his face. Eric. "Look at your face in the mirror. I am there inside!"

It feels so strong, this feeling in my chest. My angel of music is here. I stepped forward slowly, being drawn in from his beautiful voice. "Angel of music, guide and guardian, grant to me your glory!" He's here, He's really here! Eric. "Angel of music, hide no longer, come to me strange angel~" My feet stopped right in front of the mirror. A gloved hand raised itself to me, like temptation.

"I am your angel of music, come to me angel of music." I lifted my hand slowly, hearing the faraway pounding from the door.

"Whose is that voice? Who is that in there?!" Raoul?

"I am your angel of music, come to me angel of music." I looked closer, seeing an exquisite blue stare back at me. Eric, is it you? I placed my hand in his before he gripped it gently, stepping backwards. My heart is racing, can he hear it? It's pounding so loudly in my ears, I-I feel like I'm going to faint. Stepping through the mirror, Eric drew me in closely before the booming chord, of 'The Phantom Of The Opera', started playing around us.

I feel my chest tighten, a new feeling starting inside of me before his name slid off my tongue, "Eric?..." I questioned softly. He stopped in mid walk, having us almost chest to chest. His blue eyes look so lonely and cold as stone. I could just barely hear the soft panting coming from him. Eric's lips parted, whispering back a soft name, "Emma...."

"Marvelous!! Excelente!! Oh my how beautiful! You must be the new student of mine!" Huh? I looked back to see Mrs. Yeria to see her rush up to the stage crossing over quickly. Her arms thrown wide with a large goofy grin on her face, tears running down her cheeks. She's crying?! Taking handkerchief, she wiped her face and sniffled sighing, "That was so beautiful, you must be The Phantom of the Opera! Brian!" She looked over us and ushered him closer.

He snapped out of his daze, jogging over half-heartedly, "Does this mean I'm being removed?" He questioned uncertainly. "Oh yes yes! You are being removed, we've found our Phantom!! AHA!!" Mrs. Yeria cheered loudly before dancing in place. A small squeeze came to my left hand. I gazed over at our new phantom watching him take off the mask, a gasp escaped my lips.

"I would love to be the phantom Mrs. Yeria." Eric Stel! Snatching my hand out of his soft grip, I ran off the stage and out of the auditorium, leaving all my friends behind and confused. How can it be?! A hand gripped my shoulder, spinning me to face its owner, Randall.

"Emma, what is wrong?! You ran out of there as if your life depended on it. Eric was so surprised when you did-I-It's him Randal! It really is him!" I clutched his arms tightly, staring deeply into those brown eyes.

"What do you mean, 'it's him'?" He asked confused before standing up straiter, the worry leaving his body slowly. I smiled widely and turned away, clutching my hands to my chest. "It's Erik Destler! Can't you see?!" I spun around back to the confused Randal. He sighed while I giggled and happily smiled.

A small blush dusted my cheeks as my thoughts filled my mind, 'He really is the phantom of the opera! I wonder what is going to happen now that I can prove Amy wrong.' Although the worst of my worries were yet to come, a blue gaze intently stared at us from around the corner.
