The Taxi Cab

There's an urban legend that's been circulating for years about a taxi cab that doesn't take you where you want to go, but where you need to go.

One night I stepped into this cab.

2. Chapter 2

I woke up the next morning to a bunch of texts from Ethan, a bunch about him saying he was sorry, but I really wasn't in the mood to read them all.

I got up and started to get ready for another day of work. I went into the bathroom and looked in the mirror. My eyes were puffy from me crying all night. I quickly hopped in the shower and washed my hair and body. I got out and wrapped a towel around me and went over to my closet to look for something to wear.

I work as an assistant to a boss at a big company so I have to dress professionally. I grabbed a pencil skirt and a nice shirt. I then went over to my drawer and grabbed a bra and underwear. I quickly got dressed and went back into my bathroom. I brushed through my hair and blow dried it. After it was dry I brushed through it again. I decided I was just going to leave it down since it was too short to do anything else. I did some light makeup, just a little mascara, foundation, and concealer to cover up the bags under my puffy eyes.

I grabbed my phone off of my bed and some earrings off my dresser. I put my earrings in as I walked back into the kitchen. I grabbed the heels I kicked off my feet by the front door and put them on. I grabbed my bag and my keys. I opened my apartment door and turned around to check if I had forgotten anything. I quickly shut the door, making sure to lock it. I looked at my phone to check the time. I had 20 minutes to get to work and the taxi ride usually took 15 if the traffic was light.

I hopped on the elevator and clicked the lobby button. I watched the numbers above the door count down. I stood close to the door so that when it opened I could get out fast. As soon as it opened I quickly stepped out and ran into somebody. They grabbed my shoulders to steady me.

"Oh, I am so sorry." I said as I looked up into the stranger's brown eyes.

"You're fine." The stranger said as he laughed a little.

I looked into his eyes a little longer.

"Well I better get going." I said after a couple of seconds.

He let go of my shoulders.

"Oh, sorry." He said as he stepped on to the elevator.

I kept eye contact with him until the door shut. I shook myself out of the little trance I was in and continued walking.

I walked out of the apartment building and to the edge of the sidewalk. Thankfully there was already a taxi there. I hopped in and told him the building's address. Thankfully the traffic was light and I made it to the office on time. I paid the taxi driver and quickly hopped out.

I swiftly walked into the building and took the elevator to the 17th floor. I got out of the elevator and went and grabbed my boss some coffee from the break room and went to his office and placed it on his desk. Thankfully I beat him today because I would have been in a lot of trouble if I was late.

My boss, Mr. Lee, came in and gave me a list of all the things I needed to get done today. He told me if I got done early I could leave. I took that opportunity and quickly did the work I was assigned. I usually got done with work at around 5:30 but today I was done a little after 4:30. I went and told Mr. Lee I was done and he let me leave.

Today was actually going alright. Ya I did hate this job, ya I was having problems with my family, but I had a boyfriend who loved me even though we weren't on the best of terms. But since it was kind of a good day I decided I was going to go and surprise him at his apartment and hopefully work things out. I called a taxi and got in and told him the address of Ethan's apartment. The drive was quiet, except for the honking of other cars. We arrived at the apartment building and I got out after paying the driver.

I walked into the building and was greeted by the front desk lady. She recognized me because I had been here a lot to visit Ethan. I got on the elevator and clicked the button to go to the 14th floor. I hummed a song to myself as I watched the numbers go up. When I reached the 14th floor I got out and went to his apartment. Once I got there I grabbed my keys and pulled out the key to his apartment. I turned the key and unlocked his door and walked in. I gasped and dropped my keys when I saw another girl with him. They were all over each other. Ethan jumped and stopped kissing the girl when he heard my keys drop. He quickly stood up. My mouth was still open as I looked at him.

"Sadie, I thought you didn't get off work until 5:30." He said with his hand on the back of his neck.

I didn't reply, I just stood there and stared at him with my mouth open. He walked over to me and pulled me into him.

"No get off me!" I yelled at him.

He backed away.

"How could you Ethan?" I yelled as I started to cry.

"I can explain." He said, reaching for my hand.

"Save it!" I said as I reached down and grabbed my keys off the ground.

"Is that your girlfriend you were talking about?" The girl on the couch asked.

Before Ethan could reply I spoke up.

"WAS his girlfriend!" I turned around and slammed the door.

I cried as I walked back down the hall towards the elevator.

"Sadie, wait!" I heard Ethan yell down the hall.

He caught up to me and grabbed my hand, causing me to turn around and face him. He pushed me against the wall and started to kiss me. I pushed him off.

"Get away from me, I never want to see you again!"

His blue eyes were full of hurt, but I could have cared less.

I walked into the elevator and turned around to look at him.

"Goodbye Ethan." I said as the door shut.
