“Sorry Dennis, I got held up.’

“To be honest I didn’t think you’d show up.’

“Why ever not,’ I’m the envy of a lot of girls in the office who all fancy the pants off you.

“Really,’ said Dennis, his voice going up an octave or two.’

“Oh yes, they think you are very charming.’

Dennis drove around the town until he reached Del Marco’s. He pulled into the kerb then got out and opened the door for Julia.’ The Italian restaurant was very quaint inside with lots of pictures of famous Italians on the walls.

Dennis was met by a slim gentleman who escorted them to a table.

“Thank you Gino.’

“You are most welcome Mr Lord.’

After sitting down Julia looked at him and said you must be a regular here are you?’

“Yes, I come here at least three times a week.’

“You are busy man with the ladies then are you?’

“No on the contrary Julia, I come here alone.’

“Why isn’t a handsome man like you not married?’

“I was.’

“What happened; are you divorced?’

“No my wife died.’

“I’m sorry Dennis; trust me to put my foot in it.’

“It’s alright she died six years ago; I thought everyone knew.’

“I didn’t.’

“Let’s forget about it and have dinner.’

Dennis ordered a bottle of Franciacorta then asked to see the menu. They spent a few minutes looking at what Casa Del Marco’s had to offer.

The waiter came back and Dennis asked if Julia was ready to order.

“I’m spoilt for choice here Dennis why don’t you just order for us.’

“Okay, Gino could we have Bruschetta with feta salad. Then could we have Gamberoni Marinara but could we have it with tomato and chilli sauce and a bed of Linguini please with some garlic pizza.’

“Sounds really nice said Julia.’

“It is I’ve eaten it before.’

“Gino had poured out the wine and Dennis clinked her glass. “ Cheers to a wonderful evening.’

“Tell me Julia how did one as young as you end up working for MI5?’

“My father pulled a few strings.’

“I see,

“Have you been here long then?’

“Eighteen months now.’

“No steady boyfriends?’

“No I’m afraid not, I must be doing something wrong, I’ve never been in a relationship since I was eighteen.’

“What happened to him?’

“He was nice enough but he was older than me and wanted to settle down; I just wasn’t ready for all of that.’

“Point taken Julia.’

“I’m not saying that I don’t want to settle down; just not yet that’s all.’

“Good; I’m not looking to settle down either but I would like to see you again.’

“You are getting ahead of yourself Dennis.’
