“Where are you, aren’t you coming down?’

“Yes, give me five minutes to change.’

“Aren’t you ready yet, what’s up?’

“I’ll tell you when I get there.’

Janice put down the phone and rushed up stairs to change. She brushed her hair that was now cut in a Purdy (Joanna Lumley) from the TV programme the Avengers style. Janice applied some of her mothers mascara then put on her own lipstick and lip gloss. Brenda did her make up then threw on a Levi jacket then locked the door and ran down the road to Janice’s house.

She saw Danny Fawcett and he ran up to her.’

“Are you late as well?’

“Aye we got visitors; Da’s relations; you know what it’s like.’

“Tell me about it; “I had to go visit my Aunt Lizzy who is in her late sixties now.’ “I sat there like a wet rag for two hours whilst my mother chatted away to her.’ “I was bored shitless.’

“They entered Jan’s path then rang the doorbell.’

Jan ran to the door and let them in.’

“Where’s Liam?’

“He won’t be coming Jan he had to go help my dad out she lied.’

“I see; do you’s want a drink because I’ve hidden a bottle of mum’s Jack Daniels and there’s some ice and coke in the fridge.’

“Sounds good to me said Danny; who hadn’t brought anything as he thought that Liam was going to get the beer from the Pakistani shop.

“Pour me one would you Jan asked Danny as the two girls went into the kitchen.’

Jan had put out some crisps and nuts to eat and Brenda carried them into the living room whilst Jan prepared the drinks. She poured out three generous measures then added coke and ice.

She placed them onto a silver tray then brought them into the living room.

Danny took one and took a sip from the crystal glass tumbler.

“Wow that’s good said Danny as Jan turned on the stereo to listen to an album by David Bowie.’

Help yourself to crisps and nuts said Jan as she danced along to “Rebel, Rebel.’

“How many drinks have you had asked Brenda seeing her friend was more relaxed than they were?’

“Just a couple she replied; “I feel like having a good drink tonight.’

“Are you celebrating said Danny?’

“No I just feel like a drink is all.’ “Come on dance with me.’

Brenda got up from her seat and began to dance to “Oh You Pretty Things” a cover done originally by Peter Noon and Herman’s’ Hermits. David Jones (Bowie) found fame as the glam rock star Ziggy Stardust and Spiders from Mars. His outrageous outfits make up, dyed hair colour, and stage presence made him popular with young people all over the world.

“Do you think that Liam will come later said Jan?’

“You like my brother don’t you.’

“Yes, I like him; he’s fun to be with.’

“I mean you fancy him as well.’

Jan’s’ face reddened and Brenda knew there and then that her friend had a thing for her brother.’

“Anyone for a top up.’

“Go on then Jan I’ll have one.’
