“And Rob what I’ve just told you goes no further than us two in this room okay.’

“Understood sir.

By seven thirty that morning Ralph had spoken with the police in Bewick and the Media. He told them that the charred remains of four people were discovered in the fire and are to believed to be the Webster family from Belfast. Pictures of the dead were given to the newspapers to print off that evening.

Detective constable Michael Laidler had carried out Ralphs instructions and the Webster family were hiding out in a hotel in Edinburgh.

Ralph spoke to Seamus and told him that their new identities and passports would be with them later that day. “You can all keep your first names but your surname will now be McCredie. You will be given a middle name which you can use if you so wish. “I would advise that you do that to be on the safe side. Ralph went onto tell them that they would be on their way to Sydney Australia later that evening. It was perfect as for all tense and purposes the Webster’s were dead in the eyes of the public; they could now start a new life abroad without recognition. They all had to dye their hair a different colour and Seamus was asked to grow a beard. He already had a five day growth already and it would only take him a couple more days to have a full facial growth which would change his appearance. Liam now had blond locks as did his sister and her mother. Both Brenda and her mother liked the transformation. They had the hairdresser come to the hotel to do it professionally even their eyebrows were bleached. After which they had passport photos taken and they were given clothes that were worn in Australia to make them look like the part. Other photos were taken with Seamus and his family with him holding a bottle of XXXX lager. They were placed into his new wallet. Seamus was given $2.000 dollars to tide him over until he was settled. They had a new home to move straight into; fully furnished; all paid for by the British Government.

The five bed roomed house was very modern, spacious with gardens front and rear a work shed and greenhouse and five acres of land for growing crops. To the side of the building was a twenty metre swimming pool. At the front there was a wall that went right around the property and a double iron security gate. There was a double garage and two cars and a motorbike for them because the town was some way off. Driving lessons were arranged for Annie, Brenda, and Liam and they were already enrolled at Sydney’s Australian Catholic University where they would both begin a degree course later in the summer.’

There was a job for Seamus waiting in William’s town or if he liked on Cockatoo Island. A post in a big supermarket chain awaited Annie too.

“You guys have thought of everything.’

“If there’s anything we have missed just let us know.’ “I forgot to mention that the house will be stocked with a month’s supply of food and beer for you as well.’

Seamus shook both Ralph’s and Rob’s hand as did Liam.

Annie and Brenda hugged both men.

“A taxi will pick you up at 9pm tonight; good luck and I hope that you make a new life for yourselves and some new friends over there.’

Ralph and Rob left the hotel and made their way back to Newcastle.
