Ralph thought about informing his boss then had second thoughts. What was Dennis Lord doing in Bewick?

He had a feeling that he was mixed up in this somehow and he aimed to find out.

He rang Rob Black and told him what had happened Rob was half asleep having not long gone to bed.

“Give me twenty minutes boss; I will be with you. Rob went to bathroom quickly washed and shaved. he cleaned his teeth then ran to the bedroom and threw on a clean shirt and tie. He slipped on a pair of charcoal grey trousers and fastened the belt after tucking in the shirt. He went to his sock drawer and took out a pair of black ones. He sat on the edge of his bed putting them on then slid his feet into a pair of black suede slip on shoes.

Rob Black splashed some aftershave on his face then grabbed his grey jacket and went out to his car.’ he used the blue portable light to beat the traffic as he weaved his way through the stream of delivery vans and lorries toward the head quarters. He arrived as Ralph was making his way to the to the operations room.

“Morning Rob, follow me.’

It was now quarter to five in the morning Ralph turned on the Intel processor he inserted a floppy disc then waited for it to load. The computer had a clock speed of 740 Khz. It contained 23000 transistors and managed to process 4 bits of data and 12 bit addresses. It had a memory capacity of 4096 bytes (RAM) and could deal with 60,000 instructions 90,000 peak. When it had loaded safely Ralph tapped in some data and waited Rob looked on as Ralph brought up Dennis Lords file.

Keep watch for me would you Rob, I need to check something out. A few clicks later and Ralph had the information he was looking for.’

“Here take a look at this lot.’

Rob scanned the screen at Dennis Lord’s latest bank statement which showed deposits at regular intervals. The biggest was added yesterday for £250,000 pounds.

Rob let out a low whistle. “Who do you think has been putting money into his account?’

“Let’s see shall we said Ralph as he typed another instruction into the computer and waited.

Then after ten minutes up on the screen came the name and address of the person responsible for the deposits. As Ralph had suspected his boss was bent. Sean McStiefain had been paying Dennis Lord for information. Now he would be facing an attempted murder charge as well.

Get me a print out of that information but keep this quiet I want Dennis Lord alias Jesus crucified for this.’

“How are we going to connect Mr Lord to the money?’

Ralph walked around the office thinking; then snapped his fingers; “I’ve got it.’ We let Lord think that the Webster’s were all killed last night in the caravan fire.’ “He might just slip up and ring Sean McStiefain.’ When he goes to withdraw his money to salt it away in some off shore account to avoid paying the taxes; we will have him and McStiefain as well.

“How are we going to keep this off TV and in the newspapers?

“We don’t we put out that they were all murdered; we will talk to the police and the media when we get to Bewick.’ “You can have words with the campsite manager to keep him quiet.’

In the meantime I want those fake passports with new identities on my desk by this afternoon so get onto it Rob.’

Yes sir.’
