Juniper, a seventeen year old Instagram baddie who is obsessed with The 1975, can't sleep one night so instead of sleeping, she roams the empty streets of the town she lives in-Taos, New Mexico-with her two best friends, Asher, and Violet, and her crush, Grayson. They break and enter in different places. It's every rebellious teenagers dream.

An hour had passed and Graeme and I were still sitting at the gas station waiting for everyone to return. Graeme had taken no time eating every last bit of his meal I bought him.

“Do you think they’re okay?” Graeme asked with worry in his eyes.

“I’m not sure buddy. I hope so.” I responded.

We sat at the lonely little gas station and waited and watched. Finally, after many minutes, my blue pickup truck was pulling into the lot. I grabbed Graeme’s hand and rushed outside. I hadn’t been hadn’t been happier to see that old truck.

We opened the door to find Grayson driving, but with a black eye and swollen lip. The girls, in their seat but crying frantically. Grayson slid over to let me drive and took Graeme into his lap.

“I want to sit on her lap.” Graeme pointed at Violet.

Violet chuckled through her worried tears and held her arms out. Graeme slid into her lap and leaned against her chest.

“Who’s this little guy?” Violet asked.

“I’m Graeme. I’m nine.”

“Well hi Graeme. I’m Violet. It’s very nice to meet you.”

“You’re really pretty.” declared Graeme to Violet.

We all laughed long and hard and Violet replied “why thank you. I think you’re very handsome.”

“Thanks. Wanna be my girlfriend?” Graeme said putting emphasis on girl.

“Sure.” Violet said.

Breaking the now dead silent car, I looked over to Grayson and asked what the man did to him.

“He punched me, Juni.”

“How are you gonna explain that to your parents?” I asked him.

“I’m not sure. I’ll probably just tell them I ran into a wall while I was walking to the bathroom.” Grayson said.

“Well you sure walked into that wall hard.” I said being sarcastic.

“I need your guys’ help with something.” Grayson said changing the subject.

“What?” Asher asked with doubt in her voice.

“I need to rob a bank and get money for Graeme here. I’m gonna try to gain custody of him.”

“No.” I said bluntly, “Grayson, you’re seventeen. You can’t just throw your life away before you start it, besides, how will you gain custody of Graeme if you’re not even a legal adult yet. Heck, how are you gonna explain it to your parents?”

“I’ll be eighteen in November, Juni. I’ll be moved out of the house by then and I’ll get custody of Graeme. And as for the bank, I know of a sketchy bank over in the ghetto part of town and it has no cameras. I think we can get away with it. People always rob that bank.”

“I don’t know. You can still get caught.”

“Oh well. You’re gonna help me, all three of you, but mainly Juni. I need your help the most.”

“Why?” I asked.

“Because Juni. I need a getaway driver and I need someone to watch Graeme and I need someone to keep a lookout.” Grayson said explaining the plan, “besides, Juni. You’re like my pinky toe. I’m gonna bang you on every piece of furniture in my house.”

“Oh. Um. I don’t know what to say. I’m flattered but not?” I nervously chuckled, “I guess I’ll help you. But under one condition.”

“What is that?” Grayson asked.

“I get half custody of Graeme. I want to be his mom. But, you get full custody until I turn eighteen.” which was in February.

“Deal. But we will have to live together. I don’t want him to have ‘divorced’ parents.” Grayson said.

“I’ll think about it.” I replied.

We pulled into the bank parking lot and went over who was doing what.

“Okay. Juni, you keep on the lookout. Asher, I want you to be the getaway driver. Since you and Graeme are ‘dating’” Grayson said flexing both of his index and middle fingers “you can watch over Graeme. Make sure he doesn’t go anywhere.”

We all agreed and Grayson and I shot out of the truck and up to the bank. I pick locked the doors and walked inside and followed Grayson, looking behind me as much as possible. We walked behind the counter. There was a giant safe with a wheel you had to turn in order to get in. Grayson was much stronger than I was, as admitted earlier, so he turned it.

“Okay, now you need to hurry.” I said being cautious.

I waited outside the door, and looked around while I waited for him to grab money. He came out with pockets stuffed with cash money.

“I grabbed at least $1,000,000, Juni.” Grayson said with excitement in his voice.

“Uh. Okay. We gotta keep this a secret you know. Don’t tell anyone.” I said.

“Don’t be worried, Juni, we aren’t gonna get caught. The wide receiver on our football team always robs this place. He hasn’t gotten caught once.”

“Well still, can we just get out of here?” I asked.

“Yeah let’s go.” he said while closing the safe door.

We ran out and got into the car and Asher floored the truck.

“I got the cash, now what?” Grayson asked.

“We should go and sit on that empty train car over there.” Asher pointed out.

There was a lonely rusted out train car with it’s door open and nothing in it. We pulled onto the side of the road and walked up to the train car. We helped each other into it. Once we got situated, Grayson pulled out the box of cigarettes he had and handed all of us one except for Graeme. We all lit our cigarettes and relayed out the whole night so far.

“I still can’t believe we robbed a bank.” I said inhaling smoke. “Heck, I can’t believe we are gonna try to adopt a kid.” I flashed a smile at Grayson as I exhaled the smoke.

“Well he’s halfway to an adult. We can do this.” Grayson said as he grabbed my hand that was laid on my lap. I looked down and back up and smiled.

“Yeah we can.” I assured myself.
