6. Chapter 6 – Trained To Be A Werewolf

I used the rest of my summer on training. I learned a lot about werewolves and the mystery behind them but I also trained a lot with both Elijah and Nathaniel. I didn’t talk with them we just trained. Hard. All to build up my muscles so I can learn how to fight, to protect my new family from my enemies.

I was soon going to a new school with only the pack members knowing me. I was starting in high school luckily I had Caleb and Isabel to show me around. I knew everyone in the pack went to the same high school but I hope I didn’t meet to many of the wolves because I haven’t talked to any of them since I came to live at them.

I haven’t talked to anybody about my old family because it was hard to say anything without bursting out in tears. The only way I got through was because of training. Training helped me get out emotions that I was keeping in. Pushing myself helped a lot. Mostly running, because of the speed. Werewolves run faster than humans, much faster.

Nathaniel kept that saying I was almost ready for the next step, fighting, learning how to protect others and myself. It’s the first thing we actually were talking about. “Hey, I think you are almost ready for the next step, maybe even chancing again.” My world stopped as he said that. “What? I have to chance again. I hurt to much, I can’t.” He walked close up to me and held my shoulders. “You can do this, Caitlin. You are strong enough.” I looked him in the eyes. He had the most beautiful eyes I had ever seen. He stared at my lips, licked his own like he was going to kiss me, but then someone mindlinked him. I didn’t know if I wanted him to kiss me but from the expression on his face I knew it was something serious.

We ran back to the house and I found out that it was the alpha. He wanted to talk to me about something important. “I’m sorry to be disturbing you in your training but from what I have heard you are ready to try chancing again.” I never really got used to the thought that I had to chance again. It made sense of course but that didn’t mean that I didn’t like it. It hurt because every bone in your body switches place in a very unpleasant way. You don’t feel in control either. “Alpha, I don’t think I can, the pain is unbelievably strong and I didn’t have control over anything last time.” I sensed Nathaniel tense up behind me, like he didn’t like the thought of the pain, maybe because he had been there himself. “That is why my son is going to help you through it, both physical and mentally. “ I didn’t remember the alpha having a son and I didn’t believe I had ever met him. “May I ask sir, who is your son?” Nathaniel started to laugh. I turned around to see him approach me. “Call me Nate.” He took he’s hand out in front of me to tease me. “You?” I looked confused at him as he took his hand down and nodded agreeing. “He is going to prep you for next week, the night before the full moon.”

As soon as my meeting with Cain was done I went outside again. I needed time to process the fact that I had to shift again. Nate had followed me outside. “Hey, I am going to help you through this, you can do it, you just need a little more time.”

We shared that moment again. I actually thought he would kiss me this time, but I heard Isabel and Caleb coming our way. Before I walked over to them, Nate took my hand and used his other to brush away some of my almost white hair. “It’s going to be okay, Cait.” He walked inside again. I felt paralyzed from his words. The only thing that got me out of my trance was Isabel and Caleb.

“Hey, we heard you were training for your first real shift.” Caleb made it sound like an honor. “Congratulations!” Isabel gave me a big hug. I didn’t know why everyone was happy about it. It hurt like the first time so how could it be so good? I didn’t even answer them; I just went straight to my room. That was another night without sleep, so I chose to read more of the myths and prophecies, while listening to music in the pack library. I really loved that place especially at night. I loved how quiet there were. The feeling you get when to take your headphones and some great books filled with things that sounded like something out of a twilight movie.

Again I wasn’t the only one that thought it was the best thing. Elijah was there too, in the same section as me. I asked him what he was reading to start a conversation.  “I’m reading: The White Protector of Werewolves. Its actually very good.” I sat down beside him. He read it out loud so I could enjoy it to.

“The white wolf was born to fight and protect the ones who needed it. A fast learner and keen to help Its closest. The prophecy says it will awake again in the time of war and evolution of werewolf history. A coat white as snow and eyes like ice...”

The rest I didn’t hear because I fell asleep and somehow I ended up in my own bed. In the morning I kept thinking about the story and how it must have been a coincidence that my wolf had that exact same coat and eyes. I went back to the library to find that book. It had the symbol from my necklace on.

I took it up to my room and started to read it from beginning to end. Because I missed the days training, Nate came to my room later. “Where have you been all day? We were supposed to train today.” I wasn’t really listening because I was almost done with the book. “Hallo? Earth to Caitlin!”

“WHAT!” he wasn’t expecting me to answer. “This is really important to me! But it is also a little creepy, since I doesn’t give any sense.” He looked a little weird at me and sat down by my side. “I have never heard of white wolves. I don’t think that it’s real but since I only have seen one white wolf I’m sure, I believe it.” I looked at him quite curious. “Who’s the white wolf?” He took the book out of my hands and laid it beside him.

I couldn’t really breath; I couldn’t move or do anything else. Nate laid his arm around me and shook me a little. “Hey, we don’t know what this means but we have to talk to my father about this.” I nodded as he guided me to the alpha.

I told him everything I had read from the book and Nate told him about the night I shifted for the first time. “I think that we need to dig up in your past and start a new training program, since you are supposed to save everybody.” He said that with a little joy in his voice. “We are going to make you the best, but we need help from your parents, your biological parents.”
