5. Chapter 4

“Okay, okay, okay.” I said cracking up, “But can you do this?” I took a cherry ate it and then tied the stem in my mouth.

“How in the hell.” He started laughing some more, “Yeah you might have me beat.” He smiled and ran his hands through his hair.

We were at a small bar in the outskirts of London having lunch and drinks when we started trying to one up each other with out mini hidden talents. It started with Niall spinning a quarter and keeping it going for like 5 minutes. I then folded the bar napkins to create an origami swan, something I knew would eventually come in handy. He then took his spoon and balanced it on his nose. I then took the cherry and tied it in my mouth. His hands flew up in defeat.

“Not many people can beat that. It takes a certain special kind of person to be able to do that.” I winked at him.

“Oh I don’t doubt that.” He grinned and scooted closer to me. “Hey Char, can I tell you something?”

I raised my eyebrows and turned my body towards him, we were sitting on the bar stools, “Go for it.” I gave him a soft smile.

“Would it be weird if I said that I feel like I understand you?”

I shook my head, “No, definitely not weird… but how so? I’m curious.”

He ran his fingers through his hair, a habit that I quickly picked up on. “I don’t really know how to explain it.” He chuckled then picked up my hand. He started tracing patterns on my palm, “You’re just so different. You’re different than the type of girls that I’ve been with in the past. You don’t really care about who I am to the media or what I do, you seem to care about who I actually am.”

“Surely you mean a good different?” I looked down.

“The best kind of different.” He grinned and raised my hand and kissed it softly.

“Grandma that is so romantic.”

“Oh Ella, it was. I will never forget meeting him. I will never forget that first date. I will never forgot any of him.”

She gave me a huge grin and motioned to the 2014 envelope, “What’s this picture?” She pulled out one where Niall and I were posing and it was incredibly dark all around us.

I laughed softly to myself when I saw this one. We were so young it’s incredible to see how far we had come. “That my dear is the first concert that Niall took me too. It was their first show back on tour at Wembley Stadium. We were backstage; he was just about to go on. This was just a couple days after we met.” I smiled while I continued looking at it, the first time I was seeing this since 2014, fifty-six glorious years ago.

“Did you go to a lot of concerts with him?”

“Sort of. I didn’t really want to invade his space though. I never travelled with him. I just went when he invited me.”

“That must have been a blast.”

I nodded my head, “It was one of the best times of my life. I wouldn’t do anything over if I had to.”

“Did his band mates like you?”

“I sure like to think they did. I still keep in contact with a couple of them,” I smiled at her, “They are wonderful people.”

Ella pulled out another picture, the last from 2014. It was a picture of the Horan family plus me with Niall’s arm around my shoulder. “Is this?”

I nodded my head, “Yes, that is Niall’s family. There is your great grandmother Maura and your great grand stepfather Chris they are the two hugging each other,” I pointed to the older couple hugging one another, “This one is Greg, Nialls brother is right there with his son Theo and his wife. And that is me and Niall.”

“Did they like you?”

“At first it was a little rocky.” I admitted laughing quietly. “I don’t think they really trusted me too much. This was taken around Christmas time. Niall and I had only been dating for a month and a half. There were lots of girls who just used Niall for his money and the Horan’s thought that was the case for me at first.”

“That wasn’t the case though?”

“Of course not my dear. My Niall made more money in a year than I would in my entire life but that didn’t make me love him and more or less.”

“That’s so cute,” She squealed, “Is that all there is for 2014?”

“Yes. We had only met in the middle of November. Not too much happened.” I chuckled.

“Did you see him a lot?” Ella kept her questions coming.

“Not all the time. Luckily he wasn’t on a major tour then so I saw him quite a bit when we first started dating. When tour hit though, I was lucky to see him once a month.”

“Oh wow. How did that work out?”

“It was definitely hard on us. You’ll see that when we get into the next couple of years.”

“I can’t wait to hear about it.”

“Neither can I my dear Ella.” I patted her on the back.
