There's no time

It had been 3 years since Jacob Stone had been reported missing. It came as a shock to those who knew him best, as he was quite happy for the average 13 year old. I'm Daisy Thomas and I'm gonna tell you what actually happened to the him.

Daisy, Daniel and Christopher are mourning at their friend's funeral. But then a sinister figure emerges from the shadows of their small town. After many strange events, Daisy and her friends are soon swept up into a mystery that no one could even begin to imagine. It's not long before they realise that the clock is ticking, and for something's, there's no time...

38. Part 3 - Chapter 37

They were from the past. Of course, it made perfect sense. Daniel hadn't known anything about the ban on phones and none of them had ever ridden a hover board. Why hadn't I seen it before? Yet I still gaped at him. These guys lived in the time that was my childhood dream wonderland.

"Take me with you," I said. "Take me to that better place, we could change everything. Keep earth safe from the Overdrive somehow." I knew the answer before he said it.

"We can't. You belong here, we shouldn't change the future. If we do, then everything here, now, would be completely different. I'm sorry Katie, we just can't."

What had started out as a group of 7, had now become 5. 3 other girls, Daisy and Daniel. They'd lost 3 people. 2 from now, and 1 from then. This whole time thing was confusing. I hadn't seen Daniel's girlfriend yet. He said she was still waiting outside for Christopher. He shook his head sadly. "She won't give up on him. Not until it's too late to get him back." I felt bad for being so prejudice about her. I walked outside to try and find her. I wanted to know her, talk to her, and most of all, help her.

A girl sat on a rocky ledge with her back to me looking down at the valley. Even without seeing her face I knew who it was. It was Daisy. Not as in Daniel's Daisy. I mean as in my Daisy. My friend from Krentan board group. It all fitted. She hadn't been with us because she was here. I took a small step forward.

"Daisy?" I whispered in the darkness. But it was loud enough for her to hear me. She swung round.

"Kat!" She yelled and jumped up. We didn't hug. We never had done. We always considered ourselves too grown up for that so instead we did our 'extra special major complicated awesomely amazing best mates' hand shake instead. We'd come up with it when we were 12.

We sat back down beside each other on the slab of rock and gazed down into our city. The warm fuzzy light making our faces glow golden. Trinia had just gotten halfway around the city. She'd be here in four minutes time. But that didn't matter right now. The only thing that really mattered was two friends hanging out for what might be the last 4 minutes they might ever have together. Trinia had somehow taken one person and put them in 3 different places according to Daniel. Once they went back to 2016, Daisy might not exist in 2118. The truth is that no one knew cuz no one had tried it out to our knowledge.

"It's weird," said Daisy after a few seconds. "In all 3 of the lives I've lived, I've always lived in Krentan. And I've seen it change over more than a hundred years. It's gone from a small market village to a massive glowing city. It's just weird." We talked some more. We talked about boys, hover boards and friends. For 2 precious minutes we forgot about it all. Everything was how it use to be. Our sanctuary abruptly ended when the red glow was out of the city and had reached the bottom of the hill. Time to get going. I dragged Daisy inside. Daniel was waiting with the others.

"See ya Daisy," I said looking into her grey eyes; they were flecked with green. I'd never noticed that before.

"Bye Kat," she sniffed. Then we hugged. A loud revving from not far away broke us apart. Daniel grabbed Daisy and tugged her inside the machine. He nodded his thanks to me and the Krentans. Then he pressed the button. A grey fog surrounded them. It twisted and changed colours. Through the mist heard someone yell. "Christopher!" It was most definitely Daisy. Then there was nothing there. Simple as that, they were gone. The sound of skittering stones woke us from our trance. Trinia was nearly here. We rushed outside. I smiled. Back to the old 'catch me if you can' game.
