2. Chapter 2

“So, why do you think I left. I want to be alone.”

“Come on, Amelia,” Amelia implored, “we need to go. It’s late come back to my house tonight, and we can talk about this.” After a couple moments, Lindsey agreed.

Once the two ladies were safely to Amelia’s house, the two went into the kitchen to prepare a small meal. “It’s been a long time since we fixed a meal together,” Lindsey commented.

Amelia turned to look at her best friend, “Yeah it has. Over the last few years, there have been several things that we’ve not been able to do together. I didn’t help that I was away for almost a year.” she replied then turning back to tend to the simmering pot on the stove, her curly hair swinging behind her. After a lengthy silence, she asked, “How long has it been since we actually saw each other?”

I’m not sure. I know we talked before you left but that’s been almost two years at least.”

It’s been more than that. I’ve been back nearly two years.”

“So, what made you come and find me tonight?” Lindsey asked after silence stretched between them.

I got a call saying something had happened and that no one could find you. After everything that took place when we were younger, I told them that I had a few ideas on where you could be. How did you manage to get a key to that building anyway?” she questioned.

I got a job there recently, the owner knew me from when I was younger, so he gave me a key so that I have access to the building whenever I want. I have been there several nights recently. I just feel safe there, and I can get away from everything that is going on. How did you get in?” Lindsey questioned, “Was I in such a hurry that I left the door unlocked?”

“Yes, you did leave the door unlocked, but I’m happy you did. If you hadn’t, then we wouldn’t be here right now talking. Stay with me tonight, and we can figure out everything else tomorrow.”

“Are you sure I can stay here?” Lindsey asked, “I don’t want to put you in a bad -”

Amelia cut her off, “It’s ok, I promise. You’ll be safe tonight.”

Morning came too early. Both girls were up by 7am to get ready for the day after only five hours of sleep. Lindsey wakes up in a cold sweat with sunlight streaming through the window, not knowing where she was. After looking around she recognized her surroundings she quickly gets out of bed and changes into the clothes that were on the night stand. When she chances a peak through the window she sees a familiar man standing across the street surveying the area. With panicked steps, she rushes out of the room to find Amelia.

“Amelia! I need to go, I can’t stay here any longer. I need to go somewhere else. I’ve tried talking to them but they don’t believe me. No one does.”
