Me and My Mental Health Story

Hi... I'm Chloe, I'm 18 years old and I'm from the UK

I used to love playing football and multiple sports. I say used too... When I was 13 or 14, everything changed for me, but life went on as normal. Well from the outside it would have seemed normal, but for me, it was far from it.

Mental Health is something that is extremely stigmatised in the UK and across the world. This is my ongoing battle with mental health and what my experience of being in the UK mental health system is like. Everyone's experiences are different... but here's my story.

11. Me and Getting Discharged From CAMHS

So as CAMHS only offer services up to 18 years of age, I got discharged, with a referral to IAPT (well the same referral from August). My psychiatrist, Hannah and Mary were at my appointment and I decided I would let my mum come to this one as well. They all sat there saying how I had made so much progress (first time they had been... complimentary?) and thought that I would be able to cope on my own until my IAPT referral went through. I just kinda looked at them all blankly like what the fuck... what progress had I made? My self harm was still getting worse, my mood was still extremely low, I'm still a high risk to myself... but yet I'd made progress... I fail to see where.

My psychiatrist went through the discharge plan which was basically 'we're not referring you to CMHT - you don't meet the criteria, go to your GP if you need to, don't go to A&E unless you have overdosed or need stitches - you'll just be wasting their time'. And that was basically it, dropped from CAMHS just like that...
