The Thunder Of Kiwea

The dragons of Kiwea are thinning out and she is the last onyx dragon in her Thunder. Jinda, her mate, is the Lord of dragons and red as blood. She wants to find more like her, but she's rather restricted with her duties. Is she really alone in the world, or just the only one for a while?

5. Ch. 4

The first thing I notice is Jinda's presence next to me. I lift my heavy lids and find him staring directly at me. I nudge my jaw against his as I hum contentedly. "We almost lost you, Arona. Never do that again." He says in a gravely voice that is dusted with concern. "But you didn't." I mumble, my energy seeming to have dissipated like smoke. "Promise me. Please, my Beloved." He pleads, nudging my jaw with the tip of his snout before pulling back and looking me dead in the eyes. "I promise I won't try this again. I know you couldn't stand to lose me and I am rather fond of you as well. However, we must still come up with a solution to our problem." He nods, face grave as he pulls his face away from mine and drapes his wing over me, flooding my body with warmth. "That has been settled as well. Once you are well, we will fly over to the human's realm and try to negotiate peace. It is the only way for us to come to a peaceful agreement." I look up into his sparkling eyes and ask the inevitable. "What if they will not have peace?" He pulls me closer with his wing and nuzzles my cheek. "Then we will fight for our existence." I move to push myself to my feet, but Jinda pushes me gently back to the floor. "Rest. The others are staying for a few days so that you may relax before we must go." I shake my head and huff. "I need to see them. I will be careful, but a thank you is in order." He rolls his deep red eyes and pushes his way beneath me, sliding me onto his back. "Fine." He grunts as he heads to the mouth of the cave. "Stretch your wings and glide. I'll catch you just before you land in the cave." He leaps out of the cave and I snap my wings open, watching as he does the same seconds later. He looks back at me once before zooming down to the cave, leaving me to my slow descent. I watch the scenery as I glide in lazy circles, waiting for the mouth of the cave to appear. After a few seconds, the cave opens before me and I glide down towards the floor. Jinda moves to catch me, but is a fraction of a second too late. I crash to the floor in a heap of limbs, my left wing snapping under my weight. I groan, but clamber to my feet and pull my right wing against me as I address the room despite my husband's protests. "I came to thank you for saving my life. Had it not been for you, I would have surely died." They nod in acknowledgement and my husband nudges my left wing, beginning to heal it as I add my magic to his. The silver dragon from before, Lynx, approaches me and bows his head in greeting. "We are glad to see you, My Lady, but are you sure you should be up and moving so soon?" I shake my head as my bone snaps back into place, allowing me to flex it to ensure that it doesn't need further fixing. "I should not, but I had to come and express my thanks to you. I felt that it needed not wait." He nods and I lie down, finally tiring enough that I need rest directly. "Please, My Lady, rest. On the morrow, we fly for the realm of humans."
