1. water droplets

She hangs her head

As she walks in the locker room

She can feel

The embarrassment

Seeping through

Her cheeks

As she pulls

Her sweaty gym clothes off

And her blush deepens

As they tease her

They tease her for everything

Her clothes

Her skin

Her body

Her smell

She hurries to the showers

The water masking her tears.

Water droplets fall

Bursting as they

make contact with her skin

Running down

her body

Washing away

The dirt

But not

The shame.

"Please write me a note!"

She begs her father

"Make your mother do it!"

He yells back

He's too drunk

To remember

That her mother

Is

Dead.

She sometimes

Wonders

"Would they treat me differently if they

Knew?"

But she does

Not wonder

For long

She knows

They would act

The same.

While she dresses

In her hand-me-down clothes

She lifts her hand

To her face

Feeling the place

Where another girl

Slapped her

Her expensive ring

Made a tiny cut.

Just another invisible

Scar

Just another wound

Forgotten

By everyone else

Not by her.

She shakes her head

And clears her mind

She will not be

Beaten

She will not be

Bested

She will stand

Up

Because no matter

How many

Scars

They

Give

Her

They

Can't

Take

Her

Hope.
