This was my Nano write that I, unfortunately, was late to sign up for due to technical difficulties.

34. Welcome Home

Tanith watched as Oliver flew threw the door and hit the wall with a groan. The machine was making loud whining sounds and was shaking violently. She panicked and slammed onto the red button. It sent the machine into flames and Oliver crawled to the her. She quickly ran over and picked him up. “Come on! We have to get out of here.” She helped him up and they ran to the elevator. Oliver watched as they passed right by his family who sat huddled on the ground together and the last thing he saw was the machined blow apart and all of the shadows that were coming right towards them as they went up in the elevator, had suddenly disappeared. Along with his family.

Oliver screamed out to them as they vanished and tried to run back but Tanith grabbed onto him and hugged him. He noticed that she could wrap her arms all the way around him and looked down to see his awesome body was gone and he had his wimpy self back. He stood there helplessly and cried as they went up to the main floor and Tanith helped him run out onto the front yard. The setting sunlight caused him to squint and he felt the heat warm his skin. The mansion behind him began to fall and him and Tanith stumbled out onto the grass a safe distance away and fell to the ground.

Oliver watched, horrified, as the building came down and buried everything. “My family. My parents. They’re gone.” He began to cry into his palms and Tanith watched sadly. She began to cry also and wrapped her arm around him.

“It’s okay Oli. They should be going to a better place now that they aren’t in in that world anymore.” She tried to sound believeing but he couldn’t trust her and it didn’t help him feel better. They sat there as he cried until the dark had taken over and the stars and fire were the only thing left. Oliver stared blankly at the fire as they sat there silently. They sat there the rest of the night until morning had come, along with a taxi.

When he got home he saw Talon lying on the couch with Britney at the dining room table bouncing her leg nervously. Once the door opened she shot up and ran to them, “Hi ma-”

“What were you thinking? I told you to come straight home after work and what do you do? You go missing! Do you know how worried I’ve been?” She was crying as she hugged him and he was crying too. Talon got up slowly and made his way to them. Britney pulled him and Tanith into the hug and they hugged back a bit awkwardly. “All of you are in trouble!”

“Alright Ma. But Talon should go to the hospital. You look like crap dude.”

“Speak for yourself.” They laughed a little and Britney looked up at Oliver expectantly.

“Your parents…” Oliver shook his head and Britney tried to hold back the tears. “Alright. Let’s get ya to the doctors sweetie.”
